पत्रकारों पर हमले से क्षुब्ध काटजू ने मांगा जवाब

नई दिल्ली : श्रीनगर में आयोजित विरोध-प्रदर्शनों का समाचार संकलित करते पत्रकारों व छायाकारों की केंद्रीय रिजर्व पुलिस बल के जवानों द्वारा पिटाई का प्रेस परिषद ने संज्ञान लिया है। अखबारों ने भी जवानों द्वारा बर्बर पिटाई से संबंधित खबरें प्रकाशित की हैं।
खबरों के मुताबिक पत्रकार उमेर मेहराज, स्वतंत्र प्रेस छायाकार यावर काबली और शौकत शफी को इस पिटाई के बाद अस्पताल में भर्ती कराया गया। कश्मीर फोटो जर्नलिस्ट एसोसिएशन ने प्रेस छायाकारों के साथ हुए इस दुर्व्यवहार की भर्त्सना की है। जम्मू-कश्मीर के मुख्यमंत्री और गृहमंत्री से पूछे गए इस आशय के संदेश में प्रेस परिषद के अध्यक्ष न्यायमूर्ति मार्कण्डेय काटजू ने प्रशासन को संविधान की अनुच्छेद 19 की धारा 1ए का हवाला दिया है। मालूम हो कि संविधान का यही अनुच्छेद संचार-माध्यमों की स्वतंत्रता को सुनिश्चित करता है। ये रहा काटजू का जम्मू कश्मीर के मुख्यमंत्री और भारत के गृहमंत्री को लिखा गया पत्र...

Dear Sir,
It has been reported in The Hindu and other newspapers that some journalists were beaten up by CRPF personnel in J&K while covering protests in Srinagar recently. It is also reported that photojournalists and a video journalist were hospitalized.
It is reported that Umer Mehraj, working as a video journalist for Associated Press Television News (APTN) and Yawar Kabli and Showkat Shafi both freelance photojournalists were taken to SKIMS Hospital, after being beaten up by CRPF personnel. The Kashmir photojournalists Association has condemned the attack If these reports are true it is a serious matter affecting the freedom of the media guaranteed by Article 19(1)(a) of the Constitution.
Please immediately give me your comments on these reports and also all what steps you have taken so that the media is able to discharge its duties effectively.
