Maha Govt to call meeting over Majithia wage board

Mumbai, Apr 13 : Maharashtra government will hold a meeting with newspaper managements within a wwage board for journalists and non-journalists, the State Assembly was informed here today.

“We will hold a meeting with newspaper managements within a week, to ensure the recommendations are implemented, Labour Minister Prakash Mehta said.

He was replying to a debate on a calling attention notice by leader of opposition Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil, in the Lower House.

A Supreme Court bench had last year, upheld the recommendations of Majithia wage board for journalists and non-journalists on their pay structure and directed that the revised salaries be granted to the employees.

NCP MLA Jayant Patil said the government should direct newspaper establishments who were yet to implement the wageboard recommendations

Mehta said the wageboard recommendations are binding on newspaper establishments.

The government will take action which will ensure that the wage board recommendations are implemented, the minister said.

BJP MLA Ashish Shelar said occupancy certificate should not be given to buildings constructed at BKC in Mumbai by owners of newspapers who have failed to implement the wageboard recommendations.

Mehta said the government will take a call on the certificate issue, after the meeting with newspaper managements.
