An open letter to Dainik Bhaskar Editors

Dear Editors, This is in reference to the coverage of former flying officer Anjali Gupta’s suicide in your daily news paper; especially about the recent stories filed by the name of Miss Upmita Vajpayee. I just want to draw your attention to a point on which we all will agree. Good journalism is meant for making things less bewildering and more transparent.

We will all also agree to the point that reporting has to be responsible. Now, hereby I want to strongly condemn the kind of reports that your paper has been carrying after the murder of Miss Anjali Gupta. In the recent reports, you guys published the details of the emails exchanged by Anjali Gupta’s friend Amit Gupta’s Wife Sadhna-with his alleged boyfriend Raaj. I just do not understand:-

1) How is, Mrs Sadhana’s personal life and the emails that she exchanged n 2009 with a man going to influence this case?

2) Even if Mrs Sadhna is having an extra marital affair, how did the paper believed that her email conversations with her friend can make the case any less bewildering for us as readers?

3) Were you guys breaking any path breaking story or coming up with a revelation that could change the form of the case? Or was the publishing of the story dated 17 September in national interest, saving Indians from fatal dangers?

4) What was the indispensible need and urgency to publish the personal life of Mrs Sadhna Gupta, and publish her emails, without her consent? How is your story helping to solve the already clear case? Who is responsible for tarnishing the image of Mrs Sadhna Gupta?

Dainik Bhaskar did similar shoddy investigation in Shehla Masood Murder case by publishing that how many miss calls shehla and Tarun Vijay did to each other.

I just want to ask that will the most popular newspaper of the state continue to target women who are dead and are living in the state? I humbly suggest that the paper looks into its content and be cautious as the reports are on a sharp decline. It is very painful for me as a reader also, to see the news paper converting into a bunch of newsprint full of sleazy-silly-rhetorical-non-contextual, baseless gossip.

Please protect the paper from becoming an up-market version of manohar kahaniyan and satya katha. Please give the victims and their families the due peace and grace that they deserve.  Debate, “the gravity of the story, the need and implications of a story and the sensitiveness of the information” and write more responsibly. The one day selling of your paper due to any masala story is enough to tarnish a woman’s life.

Are women of this state cursed to be a victim of the male-dominated and patriarchally thinking media? Such sickly suffocating reports are against the basic democratic values media stands for. I think it is high time we let reports remain reports and leave the position of courts for courts. We are not courts and being judgmental is such a medieval though-process. If anybody from the society cracks the email of anybody among us also, they will get many friendly messages we all mail to many people. How can the media morally judge people of the number of the love stories that they are having? Are they not a part of the mess and the world they are writing about? But morally judging women has always been the easiest thing to do.

Hope that the biggest paper of the state will take my request into consideration, register my dissent and will behave with a more humane manner with its story subjects.   Please, Please, Please, remember the word – “GRACE”.

चौंकाने वाला खुलासाः एक खुदकुशी के पीछे तीन-तीन लव स्टोरी

भोपाल। पूर्व फ्लाइंग ऑफिसर अंजलि गुप्ता की खुदकुशी मामले में चौंकाने वाली जानकारी सामने आई है। अब तक अंजिल और ग्रुप कैप्टन अमित गुप्ता के बीच प्रेम प्रसंग की चर्चा थी। अब तीसरे किरदार यानी अमित की पत्नी साधना की प्रेम कहानी का भी खुलासा हुआ है। अमित और साधना की भी लव मैरिज थी। इन तीन प्रेम कहानियों के किरदार एक-दूसरे से वफा की उम्मीद लगाए बैठे थे तो साथ में बेवफाई भी कर रहे थे।

इसके बावजूद अमित अपनी साधना का साथ चाहते थे। तो अंजलि से भी उनका प्रेम प्रसंग चल रहा था। जिस दौरान अंजलि अमित के साथ अपने रिश्तों की उधेड़बुन में लगी थी। उसी समय साधना का अपने पुराने मित्र राजा (परिवर्तित नाम) से अफेयर चल रहा था। साधना भोपाल के एक स्कूल में पढ़ाती हैं। इस सबके बीच अमित साधना के अफेयर की जासूसी भी कर रहा था। जासूसी के दौरान अमित के हाथ साधना और राजा के बीच हुई बातचीत के ई-मेल लग गए थे। जिसे उसने अंजलि के साथ शेयर किए थे। इन्हीं ई-मेल की कुछ कॉपियां भास्कर के हाथ लगी हैं। जिनसे पता चलता है कि साधना और राजा ई-मेल और फोन के जरिए लगातार संपर्क में थे।

साधना ने राजा को ई-मेल में लिखा ‘उसने 19 साल की उम्र में अमित से लव मैरिज की थी, लेकिन वह कभी भी अमित का दिल से सम्मान नहीं कर पाई। अमित ने उसे सभी सुख सुविधाओं से अलग रखा था। उसकी जिंदगी हमेशा उथल-पुथल भरी रही है। अमित ने अपनी जिंदगी के मामलों (अंजलि से अफेयर, जिसे साधना कूड़ा कहती थी) से मुझे और मेरे बेटे को दूर रखा। उसे अमित के अवैध संबंधों के बारे में सालभर पहले ही पता चला। जबकि दोनों के बीच रिश्ते काफी सालों से थे।(इस पर राजा ने जवाब भेजा कि वह साधना से प्यार करता है और उसकी हालत से दु:खी है।)

साधना ने राजा को ई-मेल किया ‘मुझे संतोष इस बात का है कि तुम (राजा) मुझे वापस मिल गए हो। अमित बहुत क्रूर है। उसने मेरे आत्म सम्मान को चोट पहुंचाई है। कुछ घाव तो ऐसे हैं, जो सबसे शेयर नहीं किए जा सकते।’

राजा ने साधना को मराठी में ई-मेल किया, ‘तुम इतने सालों बाद मुझे मिली हो, क्योंकि तुम मेरे लिए ही बनी हो। मैं बस दोनों के एक होने का इंतजार कर रहा हूं (साधना, राजा को अपनी शादी के पहले से जानती थी।)

बयान देने नहीं पहुंचीं साधना

सीएसपी राजेश भदौरिया के अनुसार साधना ने अब तक अपना आधिकारिक बयान दर्ज नहीं करवाया है। 11 सितंबर को घटना वाले दिन साधना भी घटनास्थल पर पहुंची थी। तब उन्होंने पुलिस को बताया था कि वह अपनी बीमार मां के पास भोपाल में रहती हैं। उनके पति अमित नागपुर में पोस्टेड हैं। बाद में पुलिस को पता चला कि साधना और उनके पति का अप्रैल में तलाक हो चुका है ये बात साधना छुपा रही हैं।

ई-मेल को लेकर जब साधना से मिलने की कोशिश की तो उन्होंने बात करने से साफ इंकार कर दिया। साधना ने कहा कि वे अपने लीगल एडवाइजर से बात करके ही पुलिस को बयान देंगी। मीडिया से वे कोई बात नहीं करना चाहतीं।

अमित गुप्ता को नहीं मिली जमानत

अंजलि गुप्ता की आत्महत्या के मामले में जेल भेजे गए एयरफोर्स के ग्रुप कैप्टन अमित गुप्ता की जमानत अर्जी अदालत ने नामंजूर कर दी। वकील हेमंत वर्मा ने दलील दी कि अमित के खिलाफ अंजलि को आत्महत्या के लिए उकसाने का अपराध नहीं बनता, इसलिए मामले की सुनवाई होने के पहले सजा नहीं मिलनी चाहिए।

पुलिस को अमित से कोई पूछताछ नहीं करनी है, लिहाजा पुलिस ने अदालत से रिमांड भी नहीं मांगा था। वहीं सरकारी वकील ने आरोपी की जमानत अर्जी पर आपत्ति की। दोनों पक्षों की बहस सुनने के बाद एडीजे संजीव सरैया ने आरोपी की जमानत अर्जी नामंजूर कर दी।

मामले के अनुसार अंजलि, अमित के साथ सात साल से लिव इन रिलेशनशिप में रह रही थी। अमित पहली पत्नी से तलाक लेकर अंजलि को शादी करने का झांसा देता रहा। इसके बाद 11 सितंबर को अंजलि ने आत्महत्या कर ली थी।
