You and your other office bearers claimed tall achievements to improve working facilities to the accredited journalists at state headquarter and thus I feel that the accredited journalists would definitely \u201crecognise\u201d your unforgettable contribution to our community.\u00a0 You know we are bound by the decisions of the general body meetings of Uttar Pradesh Manyataprapat Samvaddata Samiti and it has been endeavour of your predecessors to respect and follow such decisions. It has been decided in the GBM headed by Mr Vijay Shankar Pankaj that the term of office bearers would be for two years in future and thereafter elections of the Samiti were conducted accordingly. We are the representatives of accredited journalist who write to ensure democratic values and probity in our national life therefore it is our foremost fundamental duty to cherish healthy democratic practises in our representative bodies and keep our working transparent.<\/p>\n

I am painfully writing you this letter as you have not yet initiated process of a fresh election even as the present executive committee had become functous-officio since 07.07.2009. Senior prominent journalists including Mr Ram Dutt Tripathi, Mr Sharat Pradhan, Mr Shiv Shankar Goswami, Mr Raj Bahadur Singh, Mr Sadguru Sharan Awasthi, Mr Sanjay Bhatnagar, Mr Vijay Shankar Pankaj, Mr Biswajeet Benerjee, Mr Tahir Abbas, Mr Yogesh Mishra, Miss Amita Verma, Mr Shalabh Mani Tripathi, Mr Manoj Rajan Tripathi, Mr Man Mohan, Mr Satyavir Singh, Mr Pankaj Jha, Mr Anup Kumar Srivastav, Mr Devraj Singh, Mr Pranshu Mishra, Mr Kamal Khan, Mrs Ruchi Kumar, Mr Alok Gupta, Mr Sudhir Misra, Mr Manoj Bhadra,\u00a0 Mr Umesh Mishra, Mr D. P. Shukla, Mr Ajay Srivastva, Mr Kumar Sauvir, Mr Umesh Pathak, Mr Anil Awasthi Mr Preetam Srivastav, Mr Iftida Bhatti, Mr Asif Raza and numerous other journalists have collectively signed and given you a representation urging you to appoint a three member Election Committee through meeting of Executive\/ General Body within a week but you failed to respect the sentiments of our distinguished members despite several oral reminders.<\/p>\n

Our senior executive member Mr Sharat Pradhan wrote you two letters dated August 12th, 2009 and October 30th, 2009 requesting you to promptly convene meeting of executive body to declare panel of returning officers to initiate the process of election otherwise treat his letter as his resignation from executive committee. You were duty bound to call a meeting of general body to discuss such sensitive matters concerning all of us. <\/p>\n

It is disheartening to note that no executive meeting took place after 2nd June, 2008 thereby arbitrarily arrogating all decision making powers by a few office bearers and thus consultative mechanism and democratic transparent functioning of this prime organisation of accredited journalists had been badly hampered. We raised objections the manner in which you unilaterally nominated three members to U P Press Accreditation Committee by playing pity politics.\u00a0 Practically speaking the Committee has become utterly non-functional but some of its office bearers appear to be overactive to serve their personal interests despite their term expired on 07.07.2009.\u00a0 It is shocking that the executive committee could not find time to sit to look into the grievances and resultant resignation of its Vice President who was directly elected by our general body. It was also unethical and against propriety to remove one of the representatives of our Samiti from U.P. Press Manyata Samiti and a new member was nominated in his place in most unauthorised manner without seeking due consent of the executive committee\/ GBM even after expiry of the term of this committee. The reasoning to justify a wrong by committing another wrong is not a healthy practise and such arguments are never acceptable to intellectual community of ours. Don\u2019t we have a Right to know what Committee is doing in our name?<\/p>\n

I feel strong pressure and growing resentment among accredited journalists against unauthorised extension of the term of the office bearers.\u00a0 I am hopeful that a good sense will prevail upon you for convening a meeting of the General Body to notify election programme by appointing a panel of returning officers to maintain probity and fairness. In event you wish to stretch the term of this executive committee any further against aforementioned resolution of GBM then I am out of such executive committee and I will never like to be a party to any undemocratic decision.\u00a0 I fail to understand if you have performed outstandingly well then why are you frightened of elections? People would appreciate you by reposing faith in you again. I hope you will realise the gravity of situation and would immediately take corrective measures to restore democracy and transparency in our functioning.<\/p>\n
