Job Title: Radio\/Online Producer, Hindi Service<\/p>\n

ORGANISATION<\/p>\n

Working in a team of journalists and reporting to the Editor or Service Head. On a daily basis, reporting to Senior Producer\/Editor, as appropriate. Shift work may be required which could include nights, weekends and public holidays.<\/p>\n

JOB PURPOSE<\/p>\n

To originate, research, prepare, produce and present items, packages, interviews, discussions, complete programmes, background, analysis and features, for radio, the Internet and other media forms. To ensure that any programme material for which the post holder is responsible meets the standards required by the BBC. To work as Duty Editor for specific broadcasts or periods of time, as required.<\/p>\n

BROADCASTING AND ONLINE DUTIES<\/p>\n

To research, compile, translate and adapt, from appropriate source material, news bulletins, items and complete programmes both for radio and online.<\/p>\n

To write original material for radio and online.<\/p>\n

To create, produce and maintain Hindi Service online content.<\/p>\n

To work to a Producer\/Duty Editor either for transmission or for specific programmes.<\/p>\n

To perform in front of the microphone with or without a script, live or in recording sessions; either as Programme Producer, or as a participant in others’ productions.<\/p>\n

To conduct interviews either in the studio or on location, live or pre-recorded.<\/p>\n

To ensure that BBC Editorial principles and all relevant legal, contractual and copyright requirements are met, referring upwards in cases of difficulty or doubt.<\/p>\n

To build and maintain links with BBC WS Online, BBC News Online and BBC Online, to enable the efficient production of online content.<\/p>\n

To monitor the growth of the Hindi web site, its use and identify areas for expansion.<\/p>\n

To actively contribute to the Service\u2019s editorial planning process and online strategy.<\/p>\n

To brief the Studio Manager, as necessary, in respect of the transmission or recording of any programmes or part of a programme for which the Producer is responsible.<\/p>\n

To use a range of analogue and digital equipment from portable tape-recorders to studio recorders and playback machines, studio mixing desks and the ENPS Information System.<\/p>\n

To provide data necessary for the preparation of Programme as Broadcast (P’s as B) and other administrative records.<\/p>\n

To direct Radio Production Assistants in preparation of programme material for which the Producer is responsible.<\/p>\n

To be responsible for efficient use of allocated resources.<\/p>\n

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE<\/p>\n

A full command and up to date knowledge of Hindi as first (or equivalent) language. A good knowledge of English including complete comprehension of written and spoken English and the ability to communicate effectively.<\/p>\n

A good broadcasting voice and the ability to acquire the appropriate presentation style of the network.<\/p>\n

Recent and relevant experience as a journalist in broadcasting, print or online.<\/p>\n

Ability to write, adapt and translate with accuracy, clarity and style appropriate to differing audiences and forms of media, suitable for broadcasting or online content.<\/p>\n

A demonstrable interest in online and how to exploit it for the BBC\u2019s purposes.<\/p>\n

PC literacy, keyboard skills, and sufficient technical ability to operate appropriate equipment and software.<\/p>\n

Wide and up to date familiarity with the target areas and an in-depth understanding of its history, politics, social issues and culture as well as the changing needs of the audience. An extensive knowledge of the media situation in the target areas and the way it is developing.<\/p>\n
