The Income Tax department today carried out raids on several premises of Pearl Group- a leading real estate player in the region- and recovered Rs 2.5 crore from the group directors\u2019 premises in Mohali and Delhi.<\/p>\n
The department also recovered a number of incriminating documents, which are being assessed by the department. Sources said teams from the Income Tax Directorate of Investigation covered at least 20 premises of Pearl Group in Patiala, Banur, Mohali, Delhi, Jaipur and Mumbai and covered residences and official premises of the group\u2019s directors. The group has emerged as a major player in the real estate business in the country during the last five years.<\/p>\n
The group also runs the famous Gian Sagar Medical College and Hospital in Banur, which was also covered during the raids by the I-T department. The group also runs TV news channel P-7. The raids were conducted after receiving substantial evidence regarding tax evasion by the group. The teams were led by R K Singh, additional director of investigations, Ludhiana, and Rajinder Kaur, deputy director of investigation in Patiala.<\/p>\n
Sources said the I-T department was scrutinising numerous land deals and other documents regarding financial transactions by the group and its directors.
