Development\u201d : A Bilingual Monthly Magazine <\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Poorvanchal Gramin Viakas Sansthan, an NGO active in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar for last two decades, is hitting the stands with the first ever bilingual monthly magazine\u00a0 aimed at making\u00a0 people\u00a0\u00a0 aware of natural disasters and finding ways to cope up with the same .<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In it\u2019s inaugural issue, the magazine has highlighted dangers arising out of construction of the Tehri Dam. Incessant rains this season have played havoc in Tehri and welling of its reservoir has posed a serious challenge to its inhabitants. The dam is located in fragile Eco System of Himalayan Foothills. We have\u00a0 observed that more than 75 villages are at the verge of getting destroyed.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The magazine has also highlighted problems being faced by locals in West Bengal\u00a0 because of floods and a similar problem in Tamil Nadu. At both places people have suffered huge losses.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Disaster Management Act 2005 and National Policy and Guidelines describe national commitment on Disaster Management, keeping MDG and Hyogo Framework for Action in mind.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">We have been doing the job of educating people about natural disasters but the exercise was restricted to a limited reach .These days we see that frequency and intensity of disasters are increasing due to impact of climate change. This is not taken consistently by routine publications . Hence we decided to publish a monthly magazine on the issues related to Disaster Management &#038; Development.This will be a bilingual publication in English and Hindi languages.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Mr. A P Singh is th Managing Editor and CEO of this magazine and\u00a0 PGVS .
