Press council banned paid news and stopped political advertising 6 months prior to the election. But what if a politician himself launches a newspaper or News TV station? He will propagate his party and himself 24\/7. Is this not paid news? Our respected regulatory bodies do not have answer for this. Should we allow these media organizations function at the election hour propagating the owner-politicians and their respective political parties? No one has answer to this. Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, President of YSR Congress Party has launched a newspaper and News TV channel in the State of Andhra Pradesh. He spent crores of rupees to start SakshiTV to support his activities. After an year of the launch he found out that he failed to run the channel and handed over the editorial responsibility to NDTV. NDTV got Rs. 40 Crores in this deal. Now CBI found out that there is illegal wealth to the tune of Rs. 80,000 crores with Jagan Mohan Reddy. CBI filed charge sheet on Jagan Mohan Reddy and started raiding his properties. Local media started covering this. NDTV lead editorial team of SakshiTv started attacking local media. It named Eenadu, Andhrajyothy and TV9 as corrupt channels and warned them not to telecast news of CBI raids on Jagan. One can understand the fate of the news channel started by a black money politician. But an organization like NDTV which always talks about the ethics in the media supporting this kind of activity is surprising.
