\tI work as a cartoonist with The Indian Express Group of Newspapers and live with my wife and son at our ancestral home in Hastsal Village for the last 25 years.<\/p>\n

\tDelhi is celebrating its 100 years as the capital of the largest democracy. The land required to make modern developing Delhi was acquired from the original inhabitants of Delhi, and my great ancestors too gave their fertile farming land to develop Pusa Institute and later a part of Vikaspuri and Uttam Nagar. They themselves were later confined only to small part of the extended Lal Dora village.<\/p>\n

\tBig democracies like America protect the rights of its original inhabitants. But I am sorry to say that India is far behind in this regard. The builder mafia has been eying my property and has on several occasions tried to pressurize me into selling it off to them. I am emotionally attached to my house and have bluntly refused the offer time and again. The old house needed renovation and the work was going on in the upper portion, as we were residing in the lower portion of the house. I did not encroach upon any land illegally, nor did I exceed the height of my house.<\/p>\n

\tThe extended family of my grandfather also lives nearby, as our neighbours. They have been mischievous in the past and have been disrupting the renovation work; and I have made complaints in this regard at the Uttam Nagar police several times. But no action was taken despite my repeated requests. I have serious concern if the police were influenced by the builder mafia.<\/p>\n

\tOn the unfortunate Saturday, December 17, when we were away from house and the premises was locked, I got a call from a relative that my house was being demolished by the authorities. They did not bother to serve me a single notice, and as I rushed home i found Uttam Nagar SHO with his force and in the presence of SDM Patel Nagar there. As soon as I reached the spot, the SHO ordered my arrest in abusing language and a group of policemen dragged me in to the police gypsy in front of a huge crowd in a barbaric manner. I was humiliated and treated like a terrorist. My phone was seized and i was not allowed to talk to my family or even my lawyer. I am an income tax payee citizen of India but was deprived of even my fundamental rights and labeled as a criminal by the SHO.<\/p>\n

\tAfter being bailed out in the evening, I came back home dejected only to find my rattled home with TV, Washing Machine, Almirahs all broken and valuables missing. Even the electricity meter was not there. Since then we are in trauma & living in fear of life, in dark and cold winds blowing through my wall-less home.<\/p>\n

\tMy son is appearing for his final exams of engineering and I have become a patient of depression and treatment is going on. Now my neighbour's son Nakul who is a constable with the Delhi Police, is threatening my family that we will be uprooted from the village. So I request you to conduct an inquiry as I have no faith in local police. I may please be given Rs 2 crore against as damages for broken home and irreparable insult, trauma and humiliation my whole family suffered. We have no alternative place where we could go for shelter.<\/p>\n

\tA strong action please be taken against the officials who combined misused their powers to disrupt the exclusive possession of my home.<\/p>\n
