I can better understand the current situation camparing with what it was in the 80s. In fact my formative years were in 80s when I was a student of Koshi College 1978-80 batch INtermediate class. Ranvir Yadav was my classmate and I have been to his village many times and have seen the things from very close quarters.

The things could have been worst if Ranvir did not had any fight with his uncle Ramsharan Yadav who is said to have beaten the IAS officer in Patna secretariat. The two families were always fighting and it proved some sort of safety for other weaker classes. But any way it was a terrific situation during those times. My friend Prabhat Ranjan Deen had also joined a womens college as faculty member in Geography department in Khagaria during his initial days but later switched to journalism and joined AAj Patna.

And what was his conception of the people and place of Khagaria and the law and order situation in the state that time was amply demonstrated in his coverage of Sharad Yadav visit to Patna where Ranvir despite serving jail term manged to greet Sharad at the Patna airport and only Prabhat could report this as he knew the real governance in the state and role of Khagaria musclemen.

And a man who was supposed to be in jail was greeting Sharad Yadav at Patna airport ! What a scene but not an embarrassment for the governance as it was rather a norm than exception those days.

Those roadside line hotels on NH -31 was just near my college which were centres of all the ills- from rangdaari tax collection from BUses and trucks passing through the road to prostitution. I have seen all that from very close. Wanted to write more and interesting things about Khagaria about which I have many memoirs and could shed light on socio-economic-infrastructural aspects but do largely agree with the notes of Harivanshji.

I have been to Sitabdiara to cover a programme organised every year in memory of Late JP and then arranged by Chandrasekhar. Last time when I was posted at Chhapra with the Hindustan Times during 2000-2004, I had gone to cover the function which was addressed among others by the then Vice President Bhairon Singh Sekhawat and Amitabh Thakur was probably the then Balia SP ( With whom the journalists had a minor tifff over sitting arrangement) . ANd so far as roads and other infrastructures are concerned the place where the function was organised and represented by political heavyweight Chandrasekhar was much like that Alauli in Khagaria represented by record 8 times by RAm Vilas's brother.

 JP Gupta

 Resident Editor

 9Dot9 Media

 हरिवंशजी का मूल आलेख पढ़ने के लिए यहां क्लिक करें– खगड़िया के बहाने बिहार : गुंडा कांड से विकास कथा तक

: In retrospect Harivanshji in Khagaria : It is really a nice commentary on changing face of Khagaria by Harivanshji.
