A three-member team of the apex body of editors, which appeared before the parliamentary panel examining the Lokpal bill, stated that media in the country was broadly a &quot;private body&quot; and could not be covered by the anti-corruption watchdog.<\/p>\n<p> \tThe Guild was represented by its president TN Ninan, general secretary Coomi Kapoor and treasurer Suresh Bafna in the meeting with the parliamentary standing committee on law and justice.<\/p>\n<p> \tMany MPs cutting across party lines, including those in the committee, have been demanding bringing the media and NGOs under the ambit of the proposed Lokpal.<\/p>\n<p> \tIn the meeting, some members are understood to have told the Guild representatives that there is no demand to bring the &quot;news content&quot; under the Lokpal, but only the &quot;business content&quot;, since media houses also buy assets likes land for their infrastructure.<\/p>\n<p> \tCommittee chairman Abhishek Singhvi is learnt to have stated that the Guild members put across their views &quot;clearly and proactively.&quot;<\/p>\n<p> \tAs many as 21 other organisations and individuals were also invited to appear before the committee on Friday, to state their views on the Lokpal issue.
