CPM C.M. Vijyan opens IFWJ session
Thiruanathpuram : Marxist chief minister of Kerala Pinarayi Vijayan told the state unit of the Indian Federation of Working Journalists (IFWJ), lead by President Com. K. Vikram Rao, here that journalist pension will be raised to Rs. 10,000 a month. The chief minister was inaugurating the state convention of Senior Journalist Forum, affiliated to the IFWJ.
Central Working Committee member Dr. Naduvattom Sathyaseelan presided. General Secretary A. Madhavan presented the annual report. The former Congress minister Oman Chandy felicitated senior journalists. The leader of the Congress opposition in the Kerala Assembly Ramesh Chhenithala inaugurated a seminar on “Ethics in journalism.” IFWJ vice-president and S. Sudeesan proposed a vote of thanks. Agriculture Minister V.S. Sunil Kumar and Tourism Minister K. Surendran also addressed the session.
Chief Minister Vijayan assured the IFWJ unit that medical scheme for journalists on the pattern of Telengana, Karnataka and Andhra will be launched in Kerala also. Veteran journalist leaders who attended the two-day sessuin in the Press Club here included N.P. Rajendran, Mathew Thomas, Thomas Jacob, P.P. Aboobakar, N.P. Chekkutty. Mr. Madhavan announced that a 10-member delegation will attend the IFWJ working committee session in Jaipur on October 28, to join the 67th foundation day celebration of the IFWJ.
