The All India News Employees Federation (AINEF) and the Delhi Union of Journalists (DUJ) strongly condemn the killing of\u00a0 Mithilesh Pandey in Paraiya block of Kashta village of Gaya, Bihar a few days back.<\/p>\n
Mithlesh Pandey was a reporter with the Daink Jagran. He was purportedly shot dead by some people at his home, while he was asleep. The AINEF and the DUJ deplore the fact that despite Mr. Mithlesh Pande informing the police about the threats that he had been receiving, he was not provided any protection.<\/p>\n
We take note of the fact that Bihar is in the last stages of the polls to the assembly. Restraint is the need of the hour against whipping up frenzies. At the same time, we take note of the increasing attacks on the press. We further note with deep concern the threats and harassment of journalists in Chhattisgarh, particularly the arrest of two journalists, Santosh Yadav and Somaru Nag.
