Bhopal | To bring the change in public opinion is the objective of the journalism. Today, the citizen journalism has reached to greater heights. Aim of journalism is to let people keep up their faith in democratic values.  The angle by which we see the news portrays an individual’s nature. There has been a decline in faith towards journalism and it is us who have to create our limits. These were the views presented among the students of Makhanlal Chaturvedi National University of Communication and Journalism on the occasion of second day of Orientation Program 2016, by Mr. K G Suresh, Senior Journalist & Director General of IIMC, New Delhi.

Mr. Suresh shared his view on the topic, ‘Life of a media person’. He said that today media has been divided in two generations. First is, before google and second is after google. For a good journalist, it is very important to read & study and keep themselves upgraded. He added that those who have been renowned freedom fighters are the ideal journalists. To the budding journalists, he said to self realise the power of words and henceforth pen. He says, new trends in journalism must be the career of those people whose voices are unreachable to higher authorities. Along with, the wise media person keeps struggling by using newspapers as their medium, and we should become such a journalist, he added. He appealed to call this journey of studying journalism in university as a mission.

Students were also benefited by the lecture of Mr. Bhagwati Prakash Sharma, Chairman, Pacific Univerity, Udaypur. He delivered his lecture on media management studies emphasizing on today’s social issues and values.  Continuing his lecture he said that we need to develop a balanced style of writing rather than inclining only towards ideal or developed writing styles. We ought to carry forward our ancestors’ legacy while also becoming a global individual rather than simply hard-working. Today’s world having power of knowledge. He answered all the queries from students with examples emphasising on the importance of media management studies. It is us who have to decide whether we want to become Satya Nadela or among 126 farmers from Kheda, Gujrat who are associated with Amul brand. He said that as a student we must believe in our faculties and old teaching methodologies. To be established in advertising and marketing industry, we ought to be creative and subtle by nature.

On the topic, ‘New Media and Youth’, Mr. Jaydeep Karnik, Webdunia.com delivered his lecture in the second session of the event. He said that today’s youth is a combination of Pokemon hunters and Swami Vivekanand. Today’s youth wants to come in media with high spirits. Even now, media is used as a weapon in the independent nation.  Media’s existence is as old as society’s, while Internet has emerged as the backbone of media.

Mr. Karnik said that there is a lot of difference in Media and Social Media. Social media has not only been treated as boon but also bane. A media student must become an answerable journalist in his career. The answerability must be pre-determined before he posts anything over social media. Thus, he emphasised that power is in thoughts not in the technology while he appealed the students to become much more sensitive for society. In coming days, communication business would develop more.
Mr. Hiralal Trivedi, IAS, Information Bureau shared his views on the topic, ‘Right to Information and Media’. He said that this right should be information specific. Mr. Gopal Dandotiya said that today news is not coming with ideologies but with lure.

Mr. Sharad Dwivedi, Head, Bansal News shares his views on the topic, ‘Future of Television news’ while he said that good things are made up with three things, Satire, Difference and Acceptance. He said that the media organisations would be later known as multimedia organisations. There has been a noticeable change in the language of media. Thus we have to understand the difference between the languages of web and television. There has also been a decline in the reader’s time for newspapers though there has been a strong bonding between television and web. Now flash news of news agencies has been replaced by breaking news and this is again getting replaced by social media. Dipti Chaurasiya, Bureau Chief, India News told that TV Journalism is the journalism of common people and there has to be a sink between versatility and credibility that is challenging.
