CBI FILES A CHARGESHEET AGAINST THREE ACCUSED IN A CASE RELATING TO ALLEGED MURDER OF SHRI CHANDRIKA RAI, THEN JOURNALIST AND THREE HIS FAMILY MEMBERS

New Delhi : The Central Bureau of Investigation has filed a chargesheet against three accused, resident of Shahdol & Umariya Districts of Madhya Pradesh U/s 120 B, 392 & 302 of IPC relating to alleged murder of Shri Chandrika Rai, then Journalist and three his family members in the Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate, Umariya(MP).

New Delhi : The Central Bureau of Investigation has filed a chargesheet against three accused, resident of Shahdol & Umariya Districts of Madhya Pradesh U/s 120 B, 392 & 302 of IPC relating to alleged murder of Shri Chandrika Rai, then Journalist and three his family members in the Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate, Umariya(MP).

CBI had registered a case U/s 302, 460, 380 r/w 34 IPC on 05.03.2014 on the orders of Madhya Pradesh High Court, Principal Bench, Jabalpur and took over the investigation of said case which was earlier registered at Police Station Umariya(MP). It was alleged that Shri Chandrika Rai, Journalist, his wife Smt. Durga Rai, Shri Jalaj Rai (son) and Ms.Nisha Rai (daughter) were brutally murdered in the intervening night of 17/18.02.2012 by unknown persons, in his house at MPEB Colony, District Umariya(MP). The dead bodies were found in four different rooms of the house of Shri Chandrika Rai when the house was broke open by the relatives of Chandrika Rai on 18.02.2012. The family members of deceased Chandrika Rai approached the Hon’ble High Court of MP with the request for investigation of the case by CBI vide Writ Appeal No.803/2012 and Writ Appeal No.20/2013. The Hon’ble High Court vide its order dated 24.01.2014 stayed the ongoing trial against accused and had passed order for re-investigation of the case by CBI.

CBI conducted a thorough investigation and arrested one accused, resident of District Shahdol(MP). The role of other accused persons were also found in said case.

The public is reminded that the above findings are based on the investigation done by CBI and evidence collected by it. Under the Indian Law, the accused are presumed to be innocent till their guilt is finally established after a fair trial.
