First of its kinds in the alienated region of the country, the<br \/>festival witnessed the gala opening on Saturday precluding all serious<br \/>panel discussions on literature and related other creative activities.<\/p>\n<p>Eminent authors including Randy Taguchi from Japan, Neal Hall from<br \/>USA, Carlo Pizaati, Giampaolo Simi &amp; Alessandra Bertini from Italy,<br \/>Francois Gautier &amp; Nicolos Idier from France, Carlos Penalver from<br \/>Spain, Subramani from Fiji,\u00a0 Dhunpal Raj Heeraman &amp; Ramdeo Dhorundhur<br \/>from Mauritius, Selina Hussain &amp; Shaheen Akhtar from Bangladesh,<br \/>Rajiva Wijesinha from Sri Lanka, Raj Heeramun, Ramdev Dhoorandhar &amp;<br \/>Niranjan Kunwar from Nepal, Yugyen Tshering from Bhutan have already<br \/>graced Srimanta Sankardev Kalakshetra, the venue of the festival.<br \/>Many prominent Indian writers and cultural personalities like Asha<br \/>Parekh, Shatrughan Sinha, Rakyesh Omprakash Mehra Damodar Mauzo,<br \/>Subhash Kashyap, Makarand Paranjpe, Narendra Kohli, Khalid Mohammed,<br \/>Dipa Choudhuri are scheduled to participate in various sessions of the<br \/>festival including open interaction with the audience.<\/p>\n<p>Some famed north-eastern creative personalities and journalists<br \/>including\u00a0 Sanjoy Hazarika, Arup Kumar Dutta, Jahnavi Barua, Mamang<br \/>Dai, Pradip Phanjoubam, Monalisa Chankija, Dhruba Hazarika, Yeshe<br \/>Dorjee\u00a0 Thongchi, Leena Sarma, Jnan Pujari, Phanindra Kumar<br \/>Debachoudhury, Kula Saikia, Rami Chhabra, Vimala Morthala, Aniz Uz<br \/>Zaman, Monikuntala Bhattacharjya, Dileep Chandan along with Utpal<br \/>Borpujari, Nilim Kumar, Suparna Lahiri Baruah, Mirza Ali Baig,<br \/>Prasanta Rajguru, Mrinal Talukdar, Arindam Barkataki, Samrat<br \/>Chowdhury, Nanigopal Mahanta,\u00a0 Imran Hussain, Ratna Barali Talukdar,<br \/>Atanu Bhattachrya, Geetali Borah etc arrived at the venue for cohesive<br \/>participation.<\/p>\n<p>With this three-day fiesta, jointly organised by the National Book<br \/>Trust India (under HRD ministry) and Publication Board Assam (under<br \/>Assam\u2019s education ministry), the city has emerged as an important<br \/>venue of literary festivals in the country. With brain storming\u00a0 panel<br \/>discussions, book releases &amp; readings, cultural events including<br \/>screenings of films based on literary pieces etc, the festival is<br \/>expected to enrich the literary prospect of the region to many extend.<br \/>Inaugurating the festival, the Union human resources development<br \/>minister Prakash Javadekar appealed to the litterateur and authors to<br \/>contribute for the mission to build a culturally sound society through<br \/>their literary pieces reflecting the truth. Once a journalist,<br \/>Javadekar also assured the government&#8217;s support in ensuring the<br \/>freedom of thought &amp; expressions.<\/p>\n<p>Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal, State education minister<br \/>Himanta Biswa Sarma, celebrated authors\u00a0 Randy Taguchi, Mamang Dai and<br \/>Damodar Mauzo, NBT chairman Baldeo Bhai Sharma &amp; director Rita<br \/>Choudhury also addressed the gathering under the winter sky.
