The century has witnessed that era too when the revolutionaries competed to get martyred. The revolutionaries gave everything to their country, including their life. The atrocities of the foreign colonizers were answered bravely and very strongly. The revolutionaries were fighting the foreigners with the strength of equality and a strong organization. What else could be the reason that in spite of the difficult times socialism was the essence.
It is a tragedy that since the so called day of independence, 15th August 1947, till date these revolutionaries are ignored, their sacrifice and submission not acknowledged even after 67 long years. The absence of this history of the revolution and the revolutionaries from out text books is a through a plotted conspiracy.
We have not been made aware of a very significant past. It is pitiable and this leads to a severe anguish in our hearts. The reason to revisit this shared freedom struggle is not just to look back into history. But, this combined freedom struggle needs to be revisited so that it may lead us to look through it at the present situation, the problems and to search for the answers of pertinent and acute issues facing us today.
We will stand against this intended ignorance; we will not let the heroes of the revolution be quietly buried through the deliberate silence of the state. We will recall and remember the known and the unknown martyrs, we will invoke their martyrdom from the deepest regions of the country. This is also an attempt to save our own existence. Only this may lead to an understanding of culture of shared heritage of dissent.
In its 10th year Awam ka Cinema is organizing a conversation series to reach the citizens in every corner of the country. This is an extension of our revolutionary journey which has lasted for 10 years and hope that under any circumstances it would continue in future too.
A few words about us:
The inception of ‘The Culture of Dissent’- ‘Awam ka Cinema’ took place in Ayodhya on 28th January 2006. That was a critical time; there were fangs of hatred all around. In spite of all those hindrances this ‘Culture of Dissent’ was kindled. It went amidst people; it travelled through the ravines of Chambal to the sands of Rajasthan and all the way up the lofty heights of Kargil. Awam ka Cinema has worked to bring forth the truths of social, economic and political failings. It has survived with sincere thoughts and hard work of like-minded friends. It has never been sponsored by any NGO, trust, corporate or government fund. The exceptionally enthusiastic comrades have infused their energy into it and Awam ka Cinema has trudged through these years with the same vigor and thought.
In this present time, in these menacing and gloomy days we need more friends to join us. We welcome the thoughtful people who are against the present sectarian politics in the country. We hope that in the present political atmosphere this ‘Culture of Dissent’- ‘Awam ka Cinema’ will be a torchbearer and through the heritage of the martyrs would take forth the message of peace. It would make the people aware of their basic rights. It would alert the people of their actual adversaries.
