On the fourth Day on 4th Haryana International Film festival at DAV College for Girls Yamunanagar seminar was organized on the topic Enhancing women empowerment through information and communication technology. Inaugural address was given by Dr. Rajbir Singh, Director Institute of mass communication and media technology Kurukshetra University Kurukshetra. He thoroughly expressed his views on this topic.
He told the audience that how perception of women has changed. How technology has revolutionized the job opportunities for women and changed their outlook. Women have been always considered inferior biologically, socially and culturally. Christianity, Islam and Hinduism have never been too optimistic about women. Dr. Rajbir explained the meaning of emancipation in such a manner; he said that it is about giving space, freedom and autonomy to a person. It is liberalization of creative human potentialities from suffocating social structures, natural and man made obstacles.
Talking about history he said that the genesis of emancipation of women started with political learning’s in 18th and 19th century. Advent of Democracy, industrialization in Europe and other countries plays an important and crucial role in development and upliftment of women lately. Another transition from feudal agrarian traditional society to industrial society was a great force which caused women empowerment. Technological determination plays an important role as it governs the social sphere and has power to change it.
Technology has re defined gender roles as no work is now manly, its just a matter of pushing buttons. Information communication technology has even changed the domestic spheres. It has given women various platforms like social networking sites to create public place to women.. Concluding the discussion he said that woman and man are different and this judgment refers no value about superiority of inferiority. The difference should be respected and celebrated and being different is no disqualification.. Concluding the discussion Dr.Seema Sethi and Dr. Vishwaprabha from DAV college for girls addressing the young girls said that we have to get updated to technology but not become slaves of them.
