Members of Press Club of Berhampur submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister of Odisha through the Police DIG (Southern zone) on Tuesday requesting for provision of security arrangements for journalists. The association also demanded justice for the scribe assaulted by the RPF (Railway Protection Force) Inspector in-charge the previous day at the Bhubaneswar Railway Station.
On Monday, a reporter and cameraman of Kanak TV were assaulted by RPF men for capturing an RPF inspector on camera as he misbehaved with a woman protesting against the delay in the arrival of a train at the railway station.
Demanding strict legal action against the RPF personnel S.K. Swain, the members of Berhampur Press Club have given a memorandum to DIG of Southern range after taking out a bike rally from the Press Club. According to the senior member of the Press Club Sishir Panigrahy, “This is an attempt by the RPF IIC to suppress the voice of media. His suspension is not a solution as attacks on journalists are increasing these days. So we demand proper action against him for protection for journalists.”
