VIJAYAWADA:S Siva Kumar, assistant editor at the Vijayawada edition of The New Indian Express, passed away in the small hours of Wednesday at a private hospital in the city shortly after undergoing surgery for removal of gangrene in small intestine. He was 57 and is survived by a daughter. An alumnus of the Andhra University, Siva Kumar joined the Indian Express in November, 1989 as a sub-editor and served as a senior sub-editor and chief sub-editor in Vijayawada and Hyderabad till 2004.
He then joined Emirates Evening Post, Dubai, UAE, as a chief sub-editor in December, 2004 and worked there till November, 2005. Thereafter, he worked for the Gulf Daily News, Bahrain, as a chief sub-editor till April, 2007, before joining Managementor magazine as its editor in Hyderabad. He worked there from July 2008 to May 2011 and later worked with the Post Noon as the deputy news editor from May 2011 to July 2011.
He joined The New Indian Express again in December, 2011 in Hyderabad as assistant editor. He moved to Vijayawada in November, 2014. A stickler for editing standards, Siva Kumar had made a mark for himself with his keen eye for detail and simple editing style. His colleagues and other staff at The New Indian Express mourned his loss. The last rites will be performed at his hometown Ongole on Thursday evening.
