JAMMU: A property dealer, who allegedly manipulated a CD to defame senior IPS officers, has been taken into custody after he surrendered in the court of Electricity Judge in Jammu on Friday Ravinder Gupta alias Gola Shah, booked under Public Safety Act in 2006, has been arrested under FIR 42/12 under sections 341/342/352/427/452/506/464/479/471/120-B and 3/30 Arms Act and 66 (A) IT Act for concocted story videographed as a sting operation to trap few police officers, who were investigating his land grabbing FIRs a police spokesman said.

Two journalists, reportedly hired to carry out the sting operation, have admitted before the court that they were asked by Gola Shah to conduct the sting operation at New Delhi. Both the journalists, Jyoti Pachnanda and Feroz have given their statements under 164 CrPC in court. “The sting operation was managed to damage the police image,” police said quoting the journalists’ statement.

Meanwhile, Gola Shah filed bail application seeking his release. After hearing Sr. Adv A K Sawhney and Adv Aseem Sawhney for the compliance of guidelines mentioned in a Supreme Court judgment titled DK Basu Vs State of West Bengal, and sought permission for consultation with his client, Special Mobile Magistrate Electricity Jammu Balbir Singh Jaswal, looking into the totality of circumstances, sent Ravinder Gupta to police custody for investigation with the direction that he be produced on the next date of hearing. The case relates to a controversial CD allegedly involving a conversation of police officer with a private individual regarding the striking of a deal. 17 FIRs are registered against Gola Shah, of which 6 are under investigation, police spokesman added.

Two accused were earlier arrested in this case while Gola Shah’s close associate Varinder Gupta alias Kaka Chichdi, son of  Banarsi Dass, resident of Gali No. 06 Talab Tillo, Jammu, a gangster involved in murder, attempt to murder, assault and land grabbing cases, was served notice under Public Safety Act, 1978 by the District Magistrate (DM) Jammu to appear within 30 days from the date of notice.

Police said Kaka Chichdi has organised a land grabbing mafia in league with Gola Shah and had gone underground to evade detention. The detention warrant against him had been issued by the District Magistrate Jammu under Public Safety Act. The plot to make a fictitious sting operation CD was hatched following the land dispute between a woman Shama and one Vikramjit. Gola Shah was supporting the woman. Police said, the land measuring 70 marla at Greater Kailash was basically owned by Vikramjit. However, the supporters of Gola Shah contacted Vikramjit and forced him to speak against the police officers on gun point.

The CD was shot in a room booked in Hotel Malini at Paharganj, New Delhi wherein Vikramjit spoke against the police officers. In the controversial CD, the supporters of Gola Shah were seen talking about demand of Rs 20 lakh by senior police officers. This all was pre-planned to help Gola Shah. Vikramjit has also admitted before the court that Gola Shah and his men had threatened him of dire consequences, Police said, adding, “With the arrest of Gola Shah, the entire CD racket has been busted.”  Later Gola Shah was taken to Gandhi Nagar Hospital for medical checkup by the police.
