जतक और हेडलाइंस टुडे समेत सभी चैनलों के कंबाइन्ड इनपुट हेड बनाए गए हैं रिफत जावेद। वे बीबीसी से आए हैं। सीधे अरुण पुरी के दफ्तर से कल इसका मेल जारी हुआ। यह भी बताया गया कि नए मैनेजिंग एडिटर ग्रुप (इनपुट) रिफत जावेद सीधे अरुण पुरी को ही रिपोर्ट करेंगे, साथ ही चैनल हेड्स को भी। यानी सुप्रिय प्रसाद और राहुल कंवल के बराबर का रुतबा मिल गया है इन्हें। रिफत जावेद मूलत: बिहारी हैं। 2001 में बीबीसी उर्दू सेवा में प्रोड्यूसर होकर जाने से पहले कोलकाता में रेडिफ डॉट कॉम के संवाददाता थे।
बीबीसी उर्दू सर्विस से इंटरनल अटैचमैंट के रास्ते बीबीसी एशियन नेटवर्क चले गए थे। वहां खासी तरक्की की। हिंदी और उर्दू सर्विस के एडिटर जिस लेवल पर होते हैं उनसे ऊपर की पोजीशन पर पहुंच गए थे। ख़ास बात ये है कि भारत से जानेवाले लोग जब अमेरिका या इंग्लैंड जाकर खरीदारी करने निकलते हैं तो दुकान पर जो चीज़ ज्यादा पसंद आती है, बारीकी से देखने पर पता चलता है कि वो मेड इन इंडिया है। उसी तरह अरुण पुरी की होनहार साहबज़ादी कली पुरी इन्हें इंग्लैंड से पसंद कर ले आई हैं। कली पुरी इन दिनों कंपनी में सिनर्जी करवाने में जुटी हैं। रिफत जावेद ने भी उन्हें कुछ ऐसा ही पैकेज बेचा है कि वो रेडियो, टीवी, वेब, डिजिटल सारे मीडियम की सिनर्जी के अनुभवी हैं। अंधा क्या चाहे दो आंखें। सो कली पुरी जी सिनर्जी और इंटीग्रेशन के लिए इन्हें ले आईं।
एक और बात साथ में जुड़ेगी कि जितने भी मीडिया घरानों में इंटीग्रेशन का नाम आया, वहां साथ ही साथ या उससे पहले ही छंटनी भी होती है। कोई भी पुराना मैनेजर कितना भी कठोर हो जाए अपनी टीम की छंटनी में कहीं न कहीं तो नर्मी दिखाता ही है। ऐसे में ऐसा नया मैनेजर बहुत काम का रहता है जिसका यहां किसी से कोई लेना देना न रहे। बेदर्दी से किसी पर भी छुरी चलाने की सिफारिश कर सकता है। अरुण पुरी ने जो मेल टीम लीडर्स को किया है, वो इस प्रकार है…

It gives me great pleasure in announcing the appointment of Rifat Jawaid effective September 2, 2013, as the Managing Editor, Input.
Rifat brings with him more than 16 years of experience in high impact journalism, 12 of which were spent working at the BBC, across all divisions and platforms – Print, Radio, TV, and Online. He has in-depth knowledge of producing, editing, resource management, and content integration. In his most recent assignment as International Coordinating Editor for BBC Global News, he was overseeing 400+ staff working from international offices in Africa, South and East Asia, and the Middle East.
He is known for mentoring staff to ensure conformity with exacting editorial standards. Amongst other things, he is trained to provide feedback on news handling skills (looking beyond headlines), writing basic news copies for multimedia platforms, feature writing for online, doing effective two ways for radio and TV, and risks of libel and defamation.
Prior to joining us, he was driving an ambitious project, One Global Team, with a view to integrate workflows and resources of various international bureaus and maximizing the reach of editorial.
In his “past life”, Rifat has also worked with Rediff.com and The Statesman. He has broadcasting knowledge of English, Hindi, Urdu and Bengali and understands Gujarati and Punjabi.
Rifat has played cricket for the BBC in English County and is a die-hard Chelsea FC fan. He has been an NCC Best Cadet and judged second best rifle shooter during the Republic Day national competition and the winner of the Governors’ Medal.
He is also fond of travelling, digital photography & gymming. Rifat is married to Lubna and spends time with his sons Kibriya & Ruwayfi.
For editorial, Rifat will report to me with a dotted reporting line to Channel Heads. Leveraging his multi-media platform experience, we are keen that Rifat make an effective contribution to our Synergy efforts.
