क्या भारत में प्रिंट मीडिया का भविष्य मुश्किल होता जा रहा है? ये सवाल काफी समय से उठते आ रहे हैं. कारण है कई पत्रिकाओं का साप्ताहिक से पाक्षिक या फिर मासिक हो जाना. आउटलुक, संडे इंडियन और इस जैसी कई पत्रिकाएं साप्ताहिक से पाक्षिक या मासिक हो चुकी हैं. अब खबर है कि आनंद बाजार पत्रिका समूह की अंग्रेजी साप्ताहिक बिजनेस पत्रिका 'बिजनेस वर्ल्ड' भी अब साप्ताहिक से पाक्षिक होने जा रही है. यानी अब पाठकों को महीने में चार की जगह दो पत्रिकाएं ही उपलबध हो पाएंगी.
इस साप्ताहिक पत्रिका के अपने आखिरी इश्यू में संपादक प्रोसेनजीत दत्ता ने एक लेख लिखा है. इसके कारणों के बारे में विस्तार से बताया है. नीचे संपादक दत्ता का लेख-
In 1999, when we had turned weekly, there was a very clear need to do so. Twitter did not exist, and the Internet contained largely static content when it came to news. There was just one business news channel and it focused mostly on stocks. Most of the newspapers concentrated on news, and not analysis.
There was a great need for a business newsweekly…. a weekly publication that could analyse in detail the implications of the events taking place. Over time though, the world changed and so did BW’s core content. As the Internet matured, and more dedicated business channels were born, they took over the primary role of disseminating news…. News became an increasingly small portion of what BW offered.
Now we are carrying those changes to the next logical step. We are stepping out of the news genre to focus entirely on issues, events and trends that will affect your business and the economy in the future.
