Sourav Ganguly: All work and no pay
When former India skipper Sourav Ganguly took to the field to give some competition to every TV anchor worth his salt, little did he know that the googly called "Ke Hobe Banglar Kotipati" (Bengali version of the popular "KBC"), will eventually leave him stumped and embarrassed.
Not only is he yet to get his due that crosses a little over `4.5 crore, all his celeb guests – including Aamir Khan – are also left awaiting their pay cheques.
The celeb guests – including Aamir Khan, Rani Mukerji, Gautam Gambhir, Prosenjit Chatterjee apart from show host Sourav – are yet to take any action against the channel, but producers of "Ke Hobe Banglar Kotipati" have already knocked on the doors of Welfare Association of Television Producers in West Bengal, the platform that looks after the producers' interests. Said a producer on condition of anonymity, "We have lodged a complaint. The channel owes us approximately `15 crore." Partha Kar, official spokesperson of the association, said, "We'll be doing our best so that the eleven producers get their money."
When RT got in touch with Tollywood superstar Prosenjit, who is awaiting his due of `25 lakh, he said, "I had committed the amount to Cinetel Trust. For them, it's big money. It's so unfortunate that such a thing has happened in Bengal. I know producers have started a movement in their own small way. If things don't get sorted out, we'll approach the Artists Forum. A common stand needs to be taken on this."
All this has left Sourav fuming. Adding insult to injury has been the call from Aamir. The star had promised to donate his winning amount to the Saraswati Mandir Trust and wanted to know when the money would be cleared. A close aide of the cricketer explained, "Sourav is angry and embarrassed. All these stars took part in the show only because of him. He will decide on what step he wants to take next."
PK Tiwari, director of the channel, said, "About 25 per cent of the payments have been made. The other dues will start getting cleared from January."
