डेक्कन हेराल्ड के क्राइम रिपोर्टर मोतिउर्रहमान सिद्दीकी को कतई उम्मीद नहीं था कि एक दिन उन्हें ही आतंकवादी बताकर जेल के सलाखों के पीछे डाल दिया जाएगा. यही नहीं, पुलिस उन पर जबरदस्ती दबाव बनाती रही कि वे कुबूल कर लें कि वे आतंकवादी हैं. लेकिन उन्होंने पुलिस के दबाव के आगे झुकने से इनकार कर दिया. आखिरकार, छह महीने तक बिना वजह जेल काटने के बाद उन्हें यह कह कर रिहा कर दिया गया कि उनके खिलाफ कोई सुबूत नहीं है. बैंगलोर में राष्ट्रीय जांच एजेंसी यानी एनआईए की एक विशेष अदालत ने बड़ी हस्तियों के कत्ल और आतंकवादी साज़िश रचने के आरोप में गिरफ्तार एमआर सिद्दीकी उर्फ मोतिउर्रहमान सिद्दीकी को छह महीने बाद रिहा कर दिया है. एजेंसी ने कहा कि उनके पास एमआर सिद्दीकी के खिलाफ कोई सबूत नहीं है.
गौरतलब है कि पिछले साल सितंबर में एमआर सिद्दीकी के साथ 12 अन्य लोगों को बड़ी हस्तियों को मारने की साजिश 
रचने और आतंकवादी संगठन से साठगांठ रखने के आरोप में गिरफ्तार किया था. सिद्दीकी के साथ एक और शख्स यूसुफ़ नालबंद को भी रिहा किया गया है. नालबंद एक इलेक्ट्रिकल शॉप मे काम करता था. रिहाई के बाद मोतिउर्रहमान सिद्दीकी ने कहा, "मैं जल्द ही अपने पुराने पेशे की शुरुआत करूंगा, लेकिन कुछ दिन जेल की कड़वी यादें भुलाने में लगेगा. हम वापस रिपोर्टिंग में लौटना चाहते है."
पुलिस ने सिद्दीकी और दूसरे 12 लोगों की गिरफ्तारी के बाद दावा किया था कि उनका संबंध आतंकी संगठन हूजी से है और वे बड़ी हस्तियों को मारने की साजिश रचने रहे थे. सिद्दीकी ने रिहाई के बाद कहा, "पुलिस ने हमें जबरदस्ती गुनाह कबूल करने का दबाव डाला, लेकिन एनआईआई की जांच में मैं बेकसूर साबित हुआ." सिद्दीकी बैंगलोर में एक बड़े अखबार के क्राइम बीट के रिपोर्टर थे, लेकिन इसके बावजूद उन्हें पुलिस को यक़ीन दिलाना मुश्किल था कि वे एक आतंकवादी नहीं हैं. सिद्दीकी के साथ गिरफ्तार हुए 10 और लोग जेल में हैं और अभी तक उनके खिलाफ जांच पूरी नहीं हुई है.
उल्लेखनीय है कि दो अन्य पत्रकार जिगना वोरा और एसएमए काजमी को भी आतंकी गतिविधियों में संलिप्त होने के आरोप में गिरफ्तार कर जेल भेजा गया था और इन दिनों ये दोनों जमानत पर जेल से बाहर हैं.

9 Lessons A ‘Terror-Suspect’ Journo Learnt In Jail
1- “The media has forgotten the ‘A’ in the ABC of Journalism [Accuracy-Brevity-Clarity].”
2-“I always thought the police, media and society at large do not treat terror suspects fairly. That thinking has been reinforced by my experience.”

A bunch of strong men barged into our house and forcefully took us away in their vehicles. This even as we were pleading and asking why we were being taken out.”
8-“They kept interrogating me as if I was the mastermind and kept saying that I’d be in for seven years for sure. Everyone knows that jail is no fun place. For the first 30 days we were cramped in a small room. The confinement itself was torture. They did not inform our families. They did not tell us what we were being arrested for. They made us sign 30-40 blank sheets of paper. One of these papers was used to create fake, back-dated arrest intimation.”
9-“Some fair play is still possible in the system. Though justice was delayed, it wasn’t denied in my case.”
