इंडियन एक्सप्रेस में सेना की दो टुकडि़यों के दिल्ली की तरफ कूच करने की खबर को लेकर पूरे देश में खलबली मची हुई है. प्रधानमंत्री मनमोहन सिंह तथा रक्षामंत्री एके एंटनी ने इंडियन एक्सप्रेस में छपी खबर की सत्यता को पूरी तरह नकार दिया है. जबकि दूसरी तरफ द गार्जियन ने अपने एक आर्टिकल में आरोप लगाया है कि इंडियन एक्सप्रेस में प्रकाशित खबर सप्रंग सरकार के एक मंत्री के इशारे पर छापी गई है, जिसका हथियार लॉबी से नजदीकी रिश्ता है.
गार्जियन ने यह भी लिखा है कि उस मंत्री को इतने संवेदनशील मुद्दे पर पीएम और रक्षामंत्री के खुलकर बयान दिए जाने की उम्मीद नहीं थी, इसलिए उसका यह वार उल्टा पड़ गया. यह मंत्री तथा हथियार लॉबी जनरल सिंह को हटाने के लिए सारी रणनीति तैयार की थी. अगर गार्जियन अखबार की रिपोर्ट में सच्चाई है तो यह पत्रकारिता के लिए भी एक बड़ा कलंक है. इसके पहले भी नीरा राडिया के मामले में बड़े पत्रकारों के लाबिइंग करने तथा उनके हिसाब से खबरें छापने की बात सामने आ चुकी है. अगर यह सच है तो ऐसी पत्रकारिता को अरब सागर में डुबो देना चाहिए.
नीरा राडिया एवं 2जी घोटाले प्रकरण में भी कुछ बड़े अंग्रेजी पत्रकारों के नाम उछले थे. अगर इस बार भी ऐसा ही हुआ है तो इससे ज्यादा शर्मनाक बात नहीं हो सकती है कि अब अंग्रेजी मीडिया देशहित को भी दरकिनार कर रहा है. हालांकि इंडियन एक्सप्रेस अपनी खबर की सच्चाई पर कायम है तथा बताया है कि अखबार में प्रकाशित खबर सच है. और यह खबर छह सप्ताह की जांच-पड़ताल तथा खोज के बाद लिखी गई है. इंडियन एक्सप्रेस ने एक खबर छापकर अपनी सफाई पेश की है. नीचे इंडियन एक्सप्रेस में प्रकाशित खबर-

The report is a meticulous reconstruction and a very sober interpretation of the movement of two key Army units towards New Delhi on the night of January 16-17.
Investigated over six weeks and written by Editor-in-Chief Shekhar Gupta; Chief of Investigative Bureau Ritu Sarin and Deputy Editor and Chief of the National Bureau Pranab Dhal Samanta (with help from Assistant Editor in the Investigative Bureau Ajmer Singh), the report draws on highly credible sources.
They have chosen to be anonymous and the newspaper is committed to protecting their identity.
'The Indian Express' sent a detailed questionnaire to the Army and the Ministry of Defence and accurately reported their responses in the report. These responses were reiterated by them on Wednesday.
Neither side explained why the Ministry of Defence wasn't notified, why the troops were suddenly asked to go back and what explanation was offered, if any, by the Army to the Government.
There are some in the government and outside who have questioned the report, even calling it "disturbing" and "baseless". All this, even those comments that attribute false motives, are, we believe, part of a necessary debate.
'The Indian Express' stands by the report.
And in the tradition of its commitment to journalism of courage and the readers' right to know, it will continue its investigation into the events of January 16-17 and the questions these raise.
