New Delhi : To promote progressive and dynamic theatre among the city’s literati and culture enthusiasts, Sahitya Kala Parishad (SKP), the cultural wing of the Delhi Government, will be presenting eight theatre performances as part of the Bhartendu Natya Utsav from 28th November to 8th December, 2011 (except 2nd, 3rd and 4th December, 2011).  These plays will be staged at Shri Ram Center for Performing Arts (SRCPA), 4, Safdar Hashmi Marg, Mandi House, New Delhi.

An annual theatre event Bhartendu Natya Utsav will be presented this year with a different approach. Earlier the selection committee comprising of leaders from diverse fields unrelated to any theatre group (in Delhi) were appointed every year by SKP to select 8 – 10 outstanding plays of the year that were then presented at the festival. However, this year the format has been changed and instead of choosing the best plays, this year, they have chosen the best directors and have given them the liberty to showcase any of their plays, which they think is their best creation, in this festival.

Many eminent theatre directors will be presenting their best plays during this festival:
28th November 2011 –  Mr. Rajender Nath (Play:Tyagpatra),
29th November 2011- Ms. Sohela Kapoor (Play: O),
30th November 2011- Ranjit Kapoor- (Play: Aadamzaat),
1st December 2011- Devender Raj Ankur- (Play: Vaapasi Ke Baad Ayodhya Babu),
5th December 2011- Torit Mitra (Play: Garbh),
6th December 2011- Baapi Bose (Play: Socrates),
7th December 2011- Satish Anand (Play: Ek Inspector Se Mulakaat) and
8th December 2011- Bhau Bharti (Play: Tamasha Na Hua)

The theatrical event will not be less than a treat to theatre enthusiasts According to Sh. Shekhar Vaishnavi, Secretary, SKP, “Showcasing the best theatre performances under one roof to give a tremendous experience to the viewers is the main objective of Bhartendu Natya Utsav and Sahitya Kala Parishad is pleased to organize this event once again this year. The format, however, has been changed slightly.  In the past the committee formed by Sahitya Kala Parishad used to select best plays to be showcased during this event but this year the committee has selected some of the best directors from the world of theatre and has given them the liberty to present their best creation at the event. We are expecting good response from the public on this change.”
