To some, it was just the story of a woman who wanted a new kidney for her son. For most others, it was a heart-wrenching tale of a desperate widow who was considering marrying the kidney donor to get around the law to save her son.
And this is what won dna 's assistant editor Santosh Andhale the prestigious RedInk Award, presented by the Press Club, Mumbai, to honour excellence in journalism, on Saturday. His entry, Willing to trade heart & soul for a kidney (September 11, 2012), won the first prize under the health and environment category.
Over 20 journalists were awarded in nine categories, which saw over 900 entries. The event, held at the National Centre for the Performing Arts, was attended by governor K Sankaranarayanan and I&B minister Manish Tewari. (dna)
