MANGALORE: A journalist allegedly strangulated his wife for questioning his fidelity at their residence on J B Lobo Road near Kodikal in the city on Friday . The deceased has been identified as Mamatha Shetty, 32, an assistant professor at a law college, wife of Gangadhar Padubidri, who is stringer with Doordarshan. Police detained Gangadhar, who was at the spot after committing the crime. He reportedly informed his family members about the incident requesting them to come over immediately.
Police said that Gangadhar had strangulated Mamatha following a tiff between the two. The body was found on the floor inside the dining room of 'Prashantha', the house where the couple were staying. There were bruises on her face and neck. Blood stain was also found on her face. According to police, the incident took place at around 4pm .
Deputy commissioner of police (crime) D Dharmaiah told reporters that tiff between Gangadhar and Mamatha culminated in the death of latter, who was strangulated. "From prima facie investigation, we found that Gangadhar has strangulated his wife. The couple used to fight every other day. Quarrel between them started with Mamatha raising suspicion about Gangadhar's fidelity. We have taken Gangadhar into custody for interrogation. Case will be booked against him based on the investigation," he added.
Assistant commissioner of police Kavitha BT said that there were no signs of Mamatha ending her life at the crime scene. "We did not find suicide note or any other clues of suicide.
