New Delhi : The National Union of Journalists (India) expressed shock over the gang-rape of a photo journalist in Mumbai yesterday. Demanding immediate arrest of all the culprits who are behind the heinous crime, the NUJ (I) Secretary General Prasanna Mohanty demanded the government to ensure safety and security of the mediapersons who are covering life threatening assignments.
According to reports, the 22-year old photo journalist, an intern with a lifestyle magazine, had gone on assignment to Shakti Mills, shooting for magazine assignment in the busy Mahalaxmi area on the evening of August 22. She was accompanied by a male colleague. Reports indicate that three among the five assailants then proceeded to brutally assault the woman photo journalist, while two others held her male colleague down.
“We are disturbed and shocked to learn this incident. This incident, however, shows that there are several other hazards that women journalists face in seeking fair and equal representation within the media. We demand the Maharashtra Government to ensure safety of the media workers, nab and punish the culprits behind the heinous crime and grant proper compensation to the victim. We also extend our support to the grieved family,” said NUJ(I) Secretary General Prasanna Mohanty. The NUJ(I) welcomed the Press Council of India’s decision to appoint a committee to probe into the incident.

भोपाल। इंडियन फेडरेशन आफ वर्किंग जर्नलिस्ट के राष्ट्रीय सचिव और सेण्ट्रल इंडिया प्रभारी कृष्ण मोहन झा ने मुंबई की एक अंग्रेजी लाइफ स्टाइल मेगजीन की फोटो जर्नलिस्ट के साथ महालक्ष्मी एरिया के रेलवे ट्रैक्स के समीप हुई गैंगरेप की घटना की तीव्र निन्दा करते हुए कहा है कि जिस तरह अपराधियों ने शाम को चहल-पहल के समय इस निंदनीय कृत्य को अंजाम दिया, उससे यह साबित होता है कि अपराधियों के मन से पुलिस का भय समाप्त हो गया है एवं कानून व्यवस्था की स्थिति पुलिस नियंत्रण से बाहर हो चुकी है। राष्ट्रीय सचिव ने महाराष्ट्र सरकार से मांग की है कि वह ऐसा माहौल बनाए जिससे कि पत्रकार निर्भय होकर अपने दायित्व का निर्वाह कर सकें। श्री झा ने महिला पत्रकार को उचित मुआवजा दिए जाने की मांग भी सरकार से की है।
