‘I noted with regret that many regional languages of India, especially Urdu, are dying out’

My dear Justice Markandey Sahab, I hope this letter finds you in best of health and spirit. It gives me pleasure to recall meeting your good self during my recent visit to India. The meeting indeed provided us with a good interaction and an invaluable exchange of ideas on a host of issues including relations between our two countries. Your perspective on the issues was encouraging and I took a lot of positives out of the meeting. I was also pleased to know about your sound verdicts as Justice and courageous actions as Chairman Press Council of India and would like to tell you that your verdicts are held in high esteem in Pakistan.

Your message to Pakistani media issued following our meeting in New Delhi has also been welcomed in Pakistan. Today I met with Mr. Shafqat Abbasi, the Chairman Press Council of Pakistan. Mr. Abbasi was also appreciative of your well wishes for Pakistani media and has also sent his highest regards to your good self.

People pin high hopes on people like your good self, an extremely, distinguished and learned person of highest caliber hailing from a rich family background from Allah Abad. I am of the firm opinion that seniors like your good self have had a great role in promotion of regional harmony, cooperation and mutual respect which is undoubtedly praiseworthy. Our younger generations should learn from seniors like you.

During the visit, I noted with regret that many regional languages of India, especially Urdu, are dying out. Since these languages and the cultures tied to them are our shared history, I feel we all are beholden to try and protect our historical languages in every possible manner we can. I duly hope you would also give special consideration to this issue. I look forward to meeting you again in near future. It would be my honour if I could be of any service to you in Pakistan.

With best wishes and highest regards,

Senator (R)

Syed Faseih Iqbal (H.I, S.I)
