Context:

India’s multiple challenges of undernutrition persist despite years of policy, programme, and strategic efforts to tackle the problem, yet stakeholders are shifting away from the nutrition and health welfare needs of children and women. OneWorld and POSHAN believe that an efficient collaboration between the media and the development sector can help put the focus back on these important indicators of development and lead. Further it can help identify game-changing actions that stakeholders can take to improve major indexes of undernutrition, and possibly even lead to better policies.

In this vein, the fellowship is intended to offer an opportunity to journalists wishing to study, analyse, and report on this issue in different parts of the country and to give it renewed momentum with an emphasis on:

• Different approaches to improving maternal and child nutrition, including strengthening the contributions of various sectors and schemes (e.g., ICDS, health, sanitation, agriculture, water, and rural development)
• Highlighting key issues around program governance, resourcing, and accountability with an emphasis on strategies to improve the same to reduce undernutrition
• Monitoring nutrition status, performance of schemes/sectors, and what additional data are needed to inform action
