Fifth day of freedom fast continued at Jantar Mantar- Activists were persuasively admitted to Dr. RML Hospital. Aseem Trivedi and Alok Dixit from Save Your Voice continued with the fifth day of their hunger strike to support the ANNULMENT MOTION against IT Rules-2011in the Rajya Sabha. Their main motive is to draw attention of the law makers and government to this issue as well as request all the political parties, including Congress, to support the motion in the RS. Both of them were in a severe condition today as they had completed almost 21 hours of their fast without drinking water and so were forcefully admitted to Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital at about 5 pm today.
The IT Act 2011, which completely puts a stop to our Freedom of Expression, is currently pending and under discussion in the Rajya Sabha. To dismiss this act, MP P. Rajeev has brought about an ANNULMENT MOTION, which the members of the Parliament have to vote. During their campaign, they have been trying to convince many of the MPs to vote in favour of the motion, but till now, none of them have agreed to do so. If the motion isn't passed during this session of the Parliament, then it will become extremely difficult to dismiss the IT Act
During the last four days, people from various streams and in favour of this cause have visited the campaigning activists at Jantar Mantar, and helped to keep their motive intact. Yesterday they were visited by Arvind Gaur, Director of Asmita Theatre (New delhi), and a few of his associates, who assured them that he would extend his support for the fight for ‘Freedom of Speech & Expression’ in a full-fledged manner.
