पुलिस पीआरओ ने एचटी एडिटर को दी नसीहत

दिल्ली पुलिस के जनसंपर्क अधिकारी राजन भगत ने हिंदुस्तान टाइम्स के एडिटर को नसीहत दी है, उस खबर पर जिसमें शीर्षक है कि पीड़िता से कम से कम आठ बार रेप किया गया. अंग्रेजी में ओरीजनल शीर्षक इस प्रकार है- ‘The victim was raped at least eight times’. किन्हीं विजेयता सिंह की स्टोरी, जो एचटी में 26 नवंबर को प्रकाशित हुई है, से आहत दिल्ली पुलिस के पीआरओ राजन भगत ने हिंदुस्तान टाइम्स के एडिटर को पत्र लिखकर समझाया है कि किसी पीड़िता को लेकर इस तरह की हेडिंग लगाना न सिर्फ आपत्तिजनक है बल्कि पीड़िता की मर्यादा से खिलवाड़ भी है.

एफआईआर की कापी पर आधारित खबर में सबसे आपत्तिजनक यह शीर्षक ही है. पूरी खबर, जो एचटी की साइट पर उपलब्ध है, इस प्रकार है. खबर के ठीक नीचे दिल्ली पुलिस के पीआरओ राजन भगत द्वारा एचटी के एडिटर को भेजा गया पत्र है जो दिल्ली पुलिस की वेबसाइट से साभार लिया गया है.

The medical report of the 30-year-old BPO employee from Mizoram who was abducted near Moti Bagh has revealed that she was raped at least eight times by the five accused, police said. Immediately after she was abducted, one of the three men, who were sitting in the front of the vehicle, tore her clothes and raped her as their vehicle—a Tata Ace pick-up van—was crossing Dhaula Kuan en route to Mongolpuri Industrial area. The incident took place around 1.10 am when the victim and her colleague were dropped by the office cab on Ring Road.

The accused also switched off one of the two cellphones the victim was carrying. She used her other phone to call her colleague, police and seniors after she was dumped at Mongolpuri 40 minutes later. Immediately after receiving her call, PCR vans and motorcycles were pressed into action, but couldn’t trace the vehicle.

“They moved very fast…I was crying” : In her FIR, which HT managed to access, the victim said, “Three boys were sitting in the front and two at the back of the pick-up van. When we got down from our cab, the three boys sitting in the front came out and pointed a pistol-like thing at us. We started screaming and they dragged me inside. They drove towards Dhaula Kuan…one of them sitting on my left removed my clothes and raped me in the moving vehicle. They drove very fast. I was crying and after some time they stopped their vehicle at a lonely place in Mongolpuri where they took turns to rape me on a mattress that was already lying on the back of the van.”

Accused had tanked up their vehicle : Eyewitnesses have told the police that the accused seemed to have come prepared to rape the woman as they had filled diesel in their van from a nearby petrol pump just minutes before abducting the woman. “An eye-witness saw the pick-up van with the five men parked in the area for sometime. They had also refuelled,” said HGS Dhaliwal, DCP (south).

Police scouring CCTV footage : Police have procured three closed circuit television camera footage from three places on the 30- kilometre stretch from Moti Bagh to Mongolpuri that the accused took. “So far, the images are of no use as they are blurred and out of focus, we are still trying,” said Dhaliwal.

Accused engaged in manual labour : The description of the accused provided by the victim to the police suggests that they could either be involved in construction work, driving, cleaning or mining work. One of them was of lean built and had tied a loose cloth on his head.
