“The 3rd Jaipur International Film Festival, January 27 to 30, 2011, will screen 150 entries from 67 countries, including 58 foreign entries & 71 from home country & 12 from state itself, for this year’s JIFF Awards. A special jury of international film critics reviewed the official foreign submissions to the JIFF Awards going to be screened at this year’s Festival. Out of 58 selected submissions jury selected two foreign submissions which were earlier nominated for Oscars & which bought it home too.” reported by Hanu.
According to director- The jury selected “Hugh Hefner-Playboy, Activist And Rebel” in (feature film) & “Smile Pinky” (documentary) under world-wood international category. Hugh-Hefner (directed by BRIGITTE BERMAN, GERMANY) is a movie which about a supreme bachelor of his time and the ultimate “lifestyle entrepreneur”. Who have forever changed world by breaking the boundaries related to sexuality, age, and gender. He created a revolutionary magazine with great articles in a time when sexuality was not even appropriate to talk about. The film goes through Hefner’s fierce battles with the government, the religious right, and militant feminists and present a brilliant and entertaining snapshot of the life of a very complex man and the controversies that surrounded him.
SMILE PINKY (directed by MEGAN MYLAN, USA) received the OSCAR Award for Best Documentary Feature. ‘Smile Pinky’ is a 39 minute-long documentary about a cleft-lip girl and her struggle for joy in an alienating society. The vividly drawn, richly complex cast of characters makes this gripping documentary one of the most inspirational films of the year.
