The decision was taken today by a majority in an informal meeting of the Committee noting dissent of its President Hisam Siddiqui. Meeting was attended by Chairman of the Professional Affair Committee and senior Journalist Sharat Pradhan, Vice President Mudit Mathur, General Secretary Yogesh Mishra, Treasurer Jitendra Shukla, Amita Verma, Surendra Singh, Neeraj Srivastav, Ajay Srivastav, Vijay Sharma, Anand Sinha, Rajendra Kumar, Dilip Singh, Asif Ansari, Atiq Khan, Shridhar Agnihotri and several others.
It was also resolved that media and corporate houses must also be covered under the ambit of anti-corruption law and feelings of the media would be communicated to concerned people.

Dear Colleagues,
The U.P. Press Correspondents Committee is organising a march from U.P. Press Club at 4 p.m. (1600 hrs) today to sharpen the movement against rampant administrative corruption, spearheaded by secular Gandhian Anna Hazare.
In this struggle between right and wrong, media-persons should not be silent spectators as history and posterity will not forgive us.
Therefore, I appeal solemnly to all of you to gather at the China Bazar Gate (Press Club) this evening at 4 p.m. and march to the Dharna

Dear Mudit,
This is in refernce to your email regarding proposed Protest Procession in order to support Anna Hazare. I got several phone calls demanding clarification on it till midnight.
You have rightly mentioned it was not a formal meeting of the executive committee or the general body of the committee.
But it was a routine daily informal gathering of few correspondents , hardly 12 present at the media centre . Among those many correspondents including myself , Ms. Amita verma ,Rajendra Kumar , Atiq Khan , Ajya Shrivastav and Dileep Singh opposed the proposal to take out this procession.
So it can not be committee’s decision. Thus such a divided gathering can not take a decision on such a controversial issue on behalf of more than 300 accredtited correspondents in Lucknow.
You know this issue is beyond the scope of this committee. Correspondnets are required to be impartial so that they can report on an issue or event objectively.
If we take side on a political issue publicly we cant be impartial.
A question has also been raised why should we take part in an event organised by a leader of Hindi Mazdoor Sabha from the Press club.
However correspondents are free to take part in this or any other procession or political activity in their individual capacity.
So pl do not use the banner of this committe for this event.
With best wishes

Dear colleagues
Just now I have seen an e-mail send by our senior most colleague Mr. K. Vikram Rao. He mention in his mail that UP press correspondent committee is organising a march from UP press club at 4 PM today to sharpen the movement against rampant administrative corruption and in support of secular Gandhian Anna Hazare.
I am shocked that who told Mr. K. Vikram Rao that the above mentioned decision has been taken by UP Press correspondence committee. I am its president. i and Mr. Rao both are in the same city knowing each other since decades. He neither contracted me nor inquired weather any decision in this regard has been taken or not.
I am sorry saying that Mr. Rao is misleading the entire journalist fertility. this is not our job to take a procession for the autocratic persons like Anna Hazare. Mr. Rao can give a certificate to him that he is a secular Gandhian. but at least I can’t because I am not aware of his career and life.
This issue was certainly discussed among some of our colleagues yesterday all the correspondence in this regard is available on e-mail since late last night, even then Mr. Rao send this email at around 11 am in the morning. I am unable to understand why this mischief has been done with the committee.
Mr. Viram Rao is life long president of Indian Federation of Working Journalist. we always respect him. virtually it is his duty as president of IFWJ to organise a Dharna and procession etc. why he himself not did it and mislead the colleagues informing that we have taken some decision like that.
I am again clarifying that our committee has not taken any decision to organise any march or protest in favour of Mr. Anna Hazare because it is not our job also. If some of our colleagues wish to join the Protest March they are free to do it as individuals. but nobody is authorised by committee to organise any such march.
With regards (to Mr. Vikram Rao specially)
Yours own

Dear All,
With all regards to the anti corruption movement initiated by Mr Anna Hazare and the sort of public support it had seen, I am of the firm opinion that journalists as a community and also individually should refrain from being the activists in a movement. We have the mammoth responsibility of reporting on the movement and in that course many will accept that not all opinions in the public domain and civil society are necessarily with the Jan Lokpal Bill, Team Anna or the projection that one lokpal bill would put an end to all notions of corruption ever since this evening, once we have marched on, we stand the chances of losing our neutrality. what credibility will we then have if in the course of our duty,we have to cover some voices from civil society or political arena, which takes a different view on the existing situations of our time .We can better serve the people, our country and established principle’s of democracy through our unbiased, unrelenting and rational journalism. Street activism by journalists may be preserved for issues which are related to interests of our specific community.
Journalists world wide are taught to stick to neutrality. Taking stand in this way is going to hit on our credibility. For the moment we may sense of support from people at large and also feel driven by the need to take part in the fight against corruption, in the longer run it would set wrong precedents. It can well leave journalist organisations and the accredited correspondent committee, faced with the grim situation when they may find themselves, forced by some of the fellowmen to initiate and act on issues, which the later may have close to heart but may not necessarily be in the interest of our community as the whole.
I already note voices of concern on the campaign planed by some of our very senior colleagues. Its also the fact that such an important decision was taken without consulting the majority of fellow journalists. i can only request that protest march may be dropped. Its against the established journalistic ethics and unity.
regards
Pranshu Mishra
Fully convinced with Hisam Bhai. The march should not be taken out under the banner of correspondent’s committee. We have different opinion on Anna’s movement.

Dear All,
To fight against corruption let us adopt a uniqe idea to teach lesson to these shameless ministers , politicians and officers. Why not we gather beggers and request them to give there one days earning to feed these corrupt people, and also open a bank account with title corruption account and the most corrupt person should be given an opportunity to be an authorised signatory. I think nothing else could be more embarrasing then this for all the honoured corrupt lot.

apne hit sadhne me juti hai. मान्यता ki files jilon me sad rahi hai.jile ke पत्रकार LIU ki report lagwate lagwate pareshan hai. Anna ka sath dena hai to pahle jile ke patrakaron ke sath nayay kro. उप्र मान्यता प्राप्त पत्रकार कमेटी ki kar jilo ke patrakaron ko maUyata dilao. warna Anna ke sath dena aNyay hoga.
Sorry to say but I would like to say. I am perplexed, after going through all the emails within journalsits. This cleraly indicates that uncomfort is also within the journalists. And even our Accreditted Correspendents as well accrediation committee is also at loggerhead on one ground. To support Anna or not to support. More precisely, we should protest openely but only after concealing our identity of journalists. Why?
Here I would like to add that today Anna is not a human being. His crusade has transformed into TRP/CIRCULATION. For the nation Ramlila ground may be a battle field for eradicating corruption from our country. But for media…. Ramlila ground is a ground for gaining TRP/CIRCULATION. WHY?
Talking of Lucknow. Here we are washing dirty linen in public. If someone from media is in favour of supporting Anna crusade, then he can do by his reporting or stories. And if somehow not then he can work on someother stories. Option is there. Then why these annoying voices and emails.
One issue still haunts me. Even though Arvind Kejariwal has cleared his stand on the issue of not including media in the draft of Anna. Don’t they feel that today Media has a lion’s share in the corruption. So the question is. Are the jounalists in Lucknow fearing the JANLOKPAL BILL?
In the end I would like to underline that many from each of the sector of our country are commenting that this AUGUST kranti of Anna is successful because of the media. Here I would like to ask from all of my colleagues. Is this observation is an appreaction to the media specilally electronic media or is this is the time to READ BETWEEN THE LINES.
If this is fight for eradicating corruption from our society then the every one is the supporter of ANNA. But if there is any hidden agenda, then that will be the time to ponder over the decission. I willl conclude with a urdu couplet.
