Facts about Nirupama-Priyabhanshu

‘Justice for Nirupama Campaign’ चला रहे निरूपमा के प्रेमी प्रियभांशु के मित्रों की तरफ से यह विज्ञप्ति आई है. इसमें निरूपमा-प्रियभांशु के रिश्ते के संबंध में कई तथ्य बताए गए हैं और कई जानकारियां दी गई हैं. साथ ही कुछ मांग भी की गई है. सबसे पहले देखते हैं कि मांग क्या है, उसके ठीक बाद में फैक्टशीट. : Press Release  : New Delhi, 8 May. “Justice for Nirupama” campaign has demanded high level CBI inquiry into Nirupama murder case. It said that local police is messing and derailing the whole investigation. The campaign has appealed the Jharkhand Government to ensure fair investigation with high level supervision. The Campaign is highly surprised, shocked and pained to see the frivolous charges leveled against Priyabhanshu by the family members of Nirupama. The initial investigation has already established that her family members are habitual liars as they are changing their statement from the beginning.

The campaign believed that this is a ploy to divert the attention of investigation and confuse the police and public. Unfortunately it seems that police is also playing in the hand of conspirators and murderers.  The Campaign has said that autopsy report of Nirupama has confirmed the murder and not suicide. The police have filed FIR against her mother and two-three others. The campaign today organized a Candle light vigil at Jantar Mantar in which hundreds of batchmates, colleagues, students, teachers, journalists, representatives of women organizations, students, human rights organizations participated.

Facts about Nirupama-Priyabhanshu :

• Nirupama Pathak and Priyabhanshu Ranjan were into the relationship for about 2 years. Many of their friends and colleagues at IIMC, Business Standard and PTI were aware of this and would be ready to accept this on record before police. But it is unfortunate that no police official has tried to confirm this yet with the people who have been witness to this relationship.

• They had come very close to getting married on March 6, 2010. Preparations had been done and the two were to get married at an Arya Samaj temple in Delhi. Several friends and co-workers of both Nirupama and Priyabhanshu had been invited. Some, like Saurabh Dwivedi, News Editor, Dainik Bhaskar, Chandigarh, were even ready with wedding gifts for the couple. Therefore, the very claim that Priyabhanshu was avoiding getting married is baseless. It is evident from the letter written by Nirupama’s father to her that her family was totally opposed to this marriage. It comes as a surprise that the mother now claims in a court complaint seeking FIR against Priyabhanshu that it was Priyabhanshu who was averse to getting married.

• It was Nirupama’s idea that she should try one more time to get her parents’ consent for the marriage. She had the inkling that she would be able to make her parents agree to this alliance, albeit with some difficulty.

• They had been into a physical relationship, with mutual consent. It was on account of neither’s behest and it came naturally into the relationship.

• Questions have been raised on Priyabhanshu’s lack of knowledge of the pregnancy. Nevertheless, it is a fact that he was not aware of it. But, when the news of her pregnancy came in the autopsy report, he accepted that if she was carrying a child, it definitely was his.

• She had left for Koderma on April 19 and was expected to board her return train on April 28. Between April 20, when she called up before her train reached Koderma station, and April 28 there was no conversation between Nirupama and Priyabhanshu except through SMSes.

• On April 28, when they talked over the phone, she was sobbing and she informed Priyabhanshu that her resignation might have been sent, obviously without her consent. Nirupama’s father had actually called up Business Standard to enquire about the process for resignation, emphasizing that Nirupama’s mother was so ill that she could not even come to Delhi to put in her papers. He had talked to the Human Resource department of the newspaper and was directed to talk to senior executives for it. During this conversation, Nirupama also informed Priyabhanshu that she would not be allowed to return to Delhi and he should forget her. She also mentioned that she was under strict observation of her family and friends of her brother.

• There have been claims that Nirupama sent eight SMSes to Priyabhanshu between 5:39 am and 7:02 am on April 29. Priyabhanshu denies receiving more than one SMS. If there actually were more SMSes, why could police not retrieve the data from Nirupama’s mobile phone? The details of her phone are yet to be found and it is vital to solve the mystery. Police must recover her mobile phone and details for call and SMSes made.

• The last SMS Priyabhanshu received at 5:39 am on April 29 read:

o “Main aane ki koshish karungi. tum patience rakho. Aur bina mere kahe koi extreme step mat uthana.meri ankita se baat hui hai. tum apne aap ko kuch mat karma.”

o This SMS clearly shows that relationship between them had not turned sour, as has been claimed. In fact, going by the pitch of this SMS, we get a feeling that it was not Nirupama, but Priyabhanshu, who was set to take some “extreme effect” and she was trying to keep his spirits up.

• Another allegation has been that Priyabhanshu picked up Nirupama’s laptop from her room, removed data on the computer and also misplaced some diaries from her room in her absence. The laptop under question was the one that both of them used and it was Nirupama who had given it to him before leaving for home. So far as data are concerned, the device had crashed on April 24. There was some snag in the system and it had to be formatted once earlier also. Even then, it was Priyabhanshu who had got it repaired. As for the misplaced diary, there has been no evidence of one being in the first place.

• There also have been claims that Priyabhanshu drove Nirupama to committing suicide. It does not sound credible that he could have possibly done that, given the limited communication they had after going home. They never spoke between April 20 and April 28. The only pieces of communication between them were through SMSes. In this connection, her SMSes speak better than any person can. Some of them are quoted here:

“Main aa rahi hoon. Mummy ka reservation bhaiya karwayega.tum bas sab (saamaan) jaa kar rakh dena, agar bartan vartan ho toh wo sab bhi”

No girl would send SMSes of this nature to a boy who has been mentally tormenting her to the extent that the girl may contemplate something as grave as suicide. The second SMS also points out to the fact that she was being watched upon and she had to look for opportunities to talk.
