New Delhi : Food and Consumer Affairs Minister K V Thomas has urged Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to accept the recommendations of wage boards on revising the salaries of journalists and non-journalists. Thomas, Lok Sabha member from Ernakulam parliamentary constituency in Kerala, made this request to the PM through a letter.
“It is worthy of notice that the salaries of the working journalists and non-journalists workers in the newspaper industry have not been revised since 2001 though the work force in Central and State services, public and private enterprises have had revision in their salaries and service conditions at least twice during this period,” he said. Thomas, who is Minister of State for Food and Consumer Affairs, urged the Prime Minister to accept the wage boards recommendations in Part One relating to revision of wages and service conditions. “The Part two recommendations regarding welfare measures and social security may be deferred for the time being,” he said in the letter. The Supreme Court had last week said the Union Cabinet can take a decision on implementing the recommendations of the Majithia Wage Board for journalists and non-journalists. (PTI)
