NUJ(I) Demands Enquiry Committee on Tussle between Media, Lawyer and Police in Kerala

New Delhi : The National Union of Journalists (India) and its state unit NUJ(Kerala) has expressed grave concern over imposing restriction on media in the Kerala High Court premises. The NUJ(I) feels that the district administration of Kerala  has no right to impinged the freedom of the press.

The NUJ(I) President Ras Bihari has demanded to setup a enquiry committee that will submit its report to Chief Justice, Kerala High Court. He assured the state scribes that the NUJ(I) will also meet central authorities in this connection so that freedom of the Press should be precured and unnecessary tension could be avoided in the premises. The NUJ(I) President will request the intervention of Chief Minister Pinarya Vijayan in the Media-Lawyer-Police tussle and to strengthen the freedom of speech in Kerala State.

The Vice President, NUJ(I) Suresh Unnithan said that we are shocked to hear that Asianet TV Journalist crew were taken into custody with their equipment and OB Van by the Police. When we contacted the Police they said they have taken the journos into custody following the district court’s order but the district judge said that he did not give any such order. The reasons been given by the Police and Judicial department in this matter are shameful and regrettable.
