700 से ज्यादा लोगों ने ऑनलाइन समाचार पोर्टल न्यूज़क्लिक के साथ एकजुटता दिखाते हुए संलग्न बयान पर हस्ताक्षर किए हैं.
हस्ताक्षरकर्ताओं में वरिष्ठ पत्रकार, जन आंदोलनों के नेता, न्यायाधीश, वकील, शिक्षाविद्, वैज्ञानिक, लेखक, कलाकार, फिल्म निर्माता, अभिनेता और अन्य संबंधित नागरिक शामिल हैं।
इनमें हैं जॉन दयाल, एन. राम, प्रेम शंकर झा, सिद्धार्थ वरदराजन और एम. वेणु (संस्थापक संपादक, द वायर), सुधींद्र कुलकर्णी, पी. साईनाथ, वैष्णा रॉय (संपादक, फ्रंटलाइन), बेजवाड़ा विल्सन (राष्ट्रीय संयोजक, सफाई कर्मचारी आंदोलन), अरुणा रॉय (मजदूर किसान शक्ति संगठन), प्रशांत भूषण, हर्ष मंदर, `सैयदा हमीद, संजय हेगड़े, जस्टिस के. चंद्रू, कॉलिन गोंसाल्वेस, के. सच्चिदानंदन, जेरी पिंटो, दामोदर मौजो (गोवा के लेखक और ज्ञानपीठ पुरस्कार विजेता), रोमिला थापर, सुमित सरकार, के एम श्रीमाली, तनिका सरकार, प्रभात पटनायक, उत्सा पटनायक, जयति घोष, सी. पी. चन्द्रशेखर, ज़ोया हसन, ज्यां द्रेज, रत्ना पाठक शाह, नसीरुद्दीन शाह, आनंद पटवर्धन और कई अन्य प्रतिष्ठित हस्तियाँ।

We, the undersigned, take strong exception to the spurious accusations levelled against the online news portal Newsclick and its founder and editor-in-chief, Prabir Purkayastha, based on claims published in a New York Times report.
The NYT report does not allege any violation of law by Newsclick. Since its inception, Newsclick has provided critical coverage of government policies and actions and their adverse impact on the lives of millions of our countrymen and women, focusing particularly on the struggles of the most oppressed and exploited sections of our society, its workers and peasants.
It has sought to articulate their anguish and distress and to highlight the role of people’s movements of all hues fighting for social justice. It has also carried reports that critically analyse international events seen through the often differing perspectives of individual authors.
The hounding of Newsclick is an attack on the freedom of expression enshrined in our Constitution. It is an attack on the conscientious role of independent journalism in a democracy to inform its readers about the government’s failings and to hold the government accountable.
It is an attack on the right of the people of this country to information that can enable them to fight against injustice. Unfortunately, in the era of corporate-owned media, the space for independent journalism that is free of corporate influence has shrunk. It is all the more unfortunate that a vicious media trial is being staged although investigation into the allegations brought against Newsclick are in court.
We, the undersigned, strongly protest the targeting of Newsclick and express our solidarity with the struggle to defend our Constitutional right to freedom of speech.
ऑनलाइन समाचार वेबसाइट न्यूज़क्लिक और उसके संस्थापक और मुख्य संपादक प्रबीर पुरकायस्थ के खिलाफ़ न्यू यॉर्क टाइम्स में प्रकाशित कुछ बातों के आधार पर लगाए जा रहे झूठे आरोपों की हम निंदा करते हैं। न्यू यॉर्क टाइम्स में छपी रिपोर्ट में यह आरोप नहीं लगाया गया है कि न्यूज़क्लिक ने किसी कानून का उल्लंघन किया है। न्यूज़क्लिक लगातार सरकारी नीतियों व कार्यवाहियों और देश के करोड़ों लोगों पर उनके असर के बारे में सटीक रूप से लेख व वीडियो प्रकाशित करता रहा है।
उसका खास फ़ोकस समाज के सबसे पीड़ित और शोषित तबकों, मजदूरों व किसानों के संघर्षों को उजागर करने में रहा है। न्यूज़क्लिक ने उनकी पीड़ा और संकटमयी ज़िंदगी को आवाज़ दी है और सामाजिक न्याय के लिए लड़ रहे हर प्रकार के जन आंदोलनों को पहचान दी है।
अंतरराष्ट्रीय घटनाओं पर भी उसके आलोचनात्मक विश्लेषण करने वाले लेख/वीडियो प्रकाशित होते रहे हैं जिनमें लेखकों के भिन्नभिन्न मतों की झलक मिलती है।
न्यूज़क्लिक पर की जा रही यह हमलावर घेराबंदी हमारे संविधान में दर्ज अभिव्यक्ति की स्वतंत्रता के अधिकार पर हमला है। किसी भी जनतंत्र में सरकार की नाकामियों के बारे में पाठकों को बताने और सरकार को आगाह करने की भूमिका स्वतंत्र पत्रकारिता निभाती है जिसपर हमला किया जा रहा है।
देश की जनता को यह हक है कि अन्याय के खिलाफ़ लड़ने के लिए ज़रूरी जानकारी उसको मिले। इस हक को भी छीना जा रहा है। यह दुख की बात है कि कॉरपोरेट मीडिया के इस दौर में कॉरपोरेट दबदबे से मुक्त स्वतंत्र मीडिया को कुचल दिया जा रहा है। यह और भी ज्यादा खेदजनक है कि न्यूज़क्लिक के खिलाफ़ एक ज़हरीला मीडिया ट्रायल चलाया जा रहा है बावजूद इसके कि न्यूज़क्लिक पर लगाए गए आरोपों के मामले कोर्ट में हैं।
हम निम्नलिखित व्यक्ति न्यूज़क्लिक को इस तरीके से निशाना बनाए जाने का पुरजोर विरोध करते हैं और अभिव्यक्ति के संवैधानिक अधिकार की रक्षा करने के संघर्ष के साथ अपनी एकजुटता दोहराते हैं।
