On the eve of the emergency meeting of the Sahitya Kala Akademi Executive Board on October 23, 2015 the Delhi Union of Journalists appeals to the Akademi to take serious note of the protests by over 40 of its Award winning writers . The Akademi must redress its grave omission in not condemning and demanding action on the murders of writers, rationalists and thinkers in recent months.
The Akademi must demand immediate prosecution of the killers and condemn the rising climate of intolerance in the country that has led to these hate crimes. The DUJ extends solidarity to the protest actions and rational debates taking place in many parts of the country against these killings and welcomes the unity being displayed by journalists, artists and writers.
The Delhi Union of Journalists at its executive committee meeting today also took note of the attacks on journalists and their unions. It calls upon all journalists, writers, artists , academics and public intellectuals to stand united in defence of the freedom of expression that stands threatened today. The DUJ urges all its members to promote the spirit of scientific thinking and rationalism through their work in the media.
