Inequality the Fastest Growing Sector in India : P Sainath

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Renowned journalist P Sainath on Thursday observed that the fastest growing sector in India is inequality. Speaking to a journalists forum at the Press Club here, Sainath said that inequality grew at huge pace in the past 15 years than it did during the past 50 years. The polemicist launched an attack on the economic policy of the country, which, according to him, bred capitalism.

“India has 56 billionaires who account for 12 percentage of country’s GDP, while there are 360 million people who are below poverty line,” he said.

Sainath also lambasted the rural economic policies which force farmers to become migrant labourers in cities and metros.
