BRIHANMUMBAI UNION OF JOURNALISTS : Alex D’Souza and IK Jain were unanimously elected

Alex D’Souza (FPJ) and IK Jain (Dainik Bhaskar) were unanimously elected Chairperson and General Secretary respectively at the AGM of the BRIHANMUMBAI UNION OF JOURNALISTS. Veteran journalist, Narayan (The Daily) was elected Treasurer, Shashi Shrivastav (TOI) was elected vice-chairperson and Keshar Singh Bist (Navbharat) was elected Joint Secretary.

A 10-member Executive Committee  members was also elected on the occasion. The outgoing Chairperson,Neelkanth Paratkar (PTI Bhasha) said that the BUJ should be innovative in its approach and reach out to the younger generation of journalists. The outgoing General Secretary, MJ Pandey (Independent Journalist), spoke at length  on the twin challenges faced by the BUJ viz.implementation of the Majithia Wage Board Award and specific inclusion of working Journalists as employees in MRTU sand PULP act.

Several members felt that the BUJ should launch a state-of-the-art  internet-based platform  to promote non-corporate,non-funded journalism.The new EC was empowered to take all necessary steps in this direction. The AGM also set up a  committee comprising Shashi Shrivastav and Geeta Seshu( Independent Journalist) to recommend amendments to the Constitution of the BUJ.The committee was directed to submit  its report to the EC within two months.
