Mumbai:- India is said to be world’s largest democracy but it seems Mira-Bhaindar Muncipal Corporation(MBMC) in Thane district does not fall under the ambit of democracy. Since last 6 month MBMC has made a rule which is not practiced in a single department of Maharashtra and also a gross violation of article 14 and 19(1) of constitution. MBMC has made restriction of entry for Journalist and public in general in MBMC premises. One could not believe that in a month only 72 hours are open for public in general & Public.
National Union of Journalists- Maharashtra (NUJ) took this violation of constitution seriously and decided to raise the voice against this unjust. Today a delegation of NUJ-Maharashta met MBMC commissioner Subhash Lakhe and demanded to upheld this rule.” It must be noted that this restriction is also applicable on Regional & Local newspaper which is again a hammer on freedom of Press”, Amit Tiwari, Spokeperson of NUJ-Maharashtra said.
Dr. Uday Joshi, President of Union has said that if this rule will not be upheld we will do agitation as per the law of the land and constitution of India.
Commissioner has assured that he will inquire the matter and will take the decision soon and also ensure that no law of the land must be violated.
The delegation consists of Vice-President- Jay Thakur, General Secretary- Shitaal Kardekar and other member of Union along with President Dr. Uday Joshi.
