सूर्या ग्रुप की तरफ से सूर्या समाचार नामक न्यूज चैनल लाया जा रहा है. यह नेशनल न्यूज चैनल होगा. इस बाबत सूचना-प्रसारण मंत्रालय ने लाइसेंस जारी कर दिया है. सूर्या समूह ने ‘सूर्या प्रोसेस्ड फूड’ नामक कंपनी की तरफ से दो लाइसेंस के लिए अप्लाई किए थे. इनमें एक न्यूज लाइसेंस है, सूर्या समाचार नाम से. दूसरा नॉन न्यूज लाइसेंस है, सूर्या सागर ऐंटरटेनमेंट के नाम से.
सूर्या समाचार चैनल के लिए इंस्टालेशन और रिक्रूटमेंट का काम जोरशोर से शुरू हो गया है. इस बीच, सूचना-प्रसारण मंत्रालय ने अरनब गोस्वामी के चैनल ‘रिपब्लिक टीवी’ को भी लाइसेंस दे दिया है. रिपब्लिक टीवी को संचालित करने वाली कंपनी का नाम एआरजी आउटलियर है. फिलहाल बीते 31 मार्च 2017 तक 888 निजी सैटेलाइट टीवी चैनल्स देश में हो चुके हैं. इसमें 392 न्यूज के हैं और 496 नॉन न्यूज के हैं.
