दिल्ली में आरएसएस मुख्यालय पर छात्रों के प्रदर्शन को कवर कर रहे मीडियाकर्मियों पर पुलिस का हमला

January 31, 2016 : The Delhi Union of Journalists (DUJ) condemns the unprovoked and unjustifiable assault by the police on a photojournalist covering the students’ march to the RSS headquarters in Delhi on January 30. Photojournalist Jiji Pillai working for the Mathrubhumi news channel has suffered injuries.

Jiji Pillai and other journalists were attacked by the police while they were engaged in collecting footage of the lathicharge on students by the Delhi Police, who were prevented from marching towards the RSS headquarters at Jhandewalan. While one policeman snatched the camera of Pillai and attempted to break it, another policeman assaulted him from behind. Equipment of a few other photojournalists were also badly damaged.

It seemed as though it was a pre-planned attack by the police which was hell bent on foiling the attempt of the journalists to film the brutal lathi charge on students protesting against Rohit Vemula’s death. This is yet another attempt to muzzle the freedom of the press, which the DUJ strongly denounces in uncertain terms.
