Press Statement

Press Club of India condemns the harassment meted out to senior journalist Umesh Kumar by the Uttarakhand government. Without going into the merits or demerits of the case against him, we Demand that an impartial and fair investigation be held in the case against him.

Strictures of the Uttarakhand High Court against the State Government speak volumes against the deliberate measures taken against Mr. Kumar which smack of a conspiratorial plan of the State Government so as to put Fetters on the freedom of the journalist to discharge his duties.

We hope that the State government would pay heed to the observations made by the Hon’ble High Court which has taken cognizance of the matter and where the case is pending.
