In the run up to May Day, the DUJ announces its Days of Vigilance.
·All members should be vigilant against attempts to scuttle the contempt petitions in the Supreme Court that have been filed by a few brave employees against managements who refuse to implement the Majithia Wage Award; remember the contempt case against Jagran is to come up in the Supreme Court tomorrow, April 28, 2015.
·Be vigilant in the face of mounting attacks on the independence and integrity of journalists, including attempts to browbeat them into arranging paid news and advertisements.
·Be vigilant and wary of pressures to ‘accept’ Voluntary Retirement Schemes.
·Be vigilant against management attempts to divide those journalists and other newspaper employees who are struggling for their rights.
·Be vigilant in preventing victimization and arbitrary transfers of employees fighting for the Wage Board and support any victimised colleagues.
We salute all those who stand up for their rights and challenge all forms of caste and gender exploitation in the media while upholding media freedoms.
