ब्रिटिश प्रवासी लेखिका दिव्या माथुर को भारत सरकार ने सम्मानित करने की घोषणा की

भारत के केंद्रीय मानव संसाधन विकास मंत्रालय ने हिंदी सेवी सम्मान की स्थापना 1989 में की थी। उन्होंने घोषणा की है कि दिव्या माथुर को उनके लेखन और प्रवासी महिला लेखकों को बढ़ावा देने के लिए पद्मभूषण मोटुरी सत्यनारायण पुरस्कार से सम्मानित किया जाएगा। यह पुरस्कार भारत के राष्ट्रपति द्वारा राष्ट्रपति भवन दिया जाता है। 2003 में इंग्लैंड की आर्ट्स-काउंसिल द्वारा उन्हें ‘कला के क्षेत्र में उत्कृष्ट योगदान और नवाचार’ के लिए सम्मानित किया जा चुका है। इसी वर्ष में उन्हें रॉयल सोसाइटी ऑफ़ के आर्ट्स की फ़ेलो के रूप में भी नामित किया गया था। बहु-पुरस्कार विजेता लेखिका, सुश्री माथुर, वातायन: पोएट्री ऑन साउथ बैंक की संस्थापक हैं।

सुश्री माथुर ने इस इस विशिष्ट सम्मान पर आभार व्यक्त करते हुए कहा, “मैं बहुत खुश हूं। मुझे लग रहा है कि जैसे ब्रिटेन में भारतीय साहित्य के क्षेत्र में मेरे योगदान को अब भारत में भी मान्यता मिल गई है।”

दिल्ली में पली-बढ़ी, सुश्री माथुर 1985 में ब्रिटेन आईं और 7 साल तक उन्होंने भारतीय-उच्चायोग में काम किया। 1992 में नेहरू सेंटर की स्थापना करने वाली टीम में शामिल होने के लिए उन्हें तत्कालीन मंत्री श्री गोपालकृष्ण गांधी द्वारा चुना गया। उनके एक उपन्यास, छ: कहानी संग्रह, सात कविता संग्रह प्रकाशित हैं; उन्होंने बच्चों के साहित्य के अनुवाद के अलावा आधा दर्जन से अधिक कहानियों और कविताओं के प्रकाशित संग्रहों का संपादन किया है। उनकी पुस्तकों पर एक दर्जन से अधिक पीएचडी लिखी जा चुकी हैं। इनका नाम प्रेरणादायक महिला, विकिपीडिया, एशियन हूज़ हू और कई अंतर्राष्ट्रीय संग्रहों के संस्करणों में शामिल हैं।

71 वर्षीय लेखिका ने कहा: “जब विदेशों में लोग अपनी मूल भाषाओं में लिखते हैं तो वे न सिर्फ उस भाषा की संस्कृति और साहित्य को उस देश में बढ़ावा देते हैं, जिस देश से वे दूर रहते हैं, बल्कि मेज़बान देश की विविधता को भी समृद्ध करते हैं। यह साहित्य उन लोगों तक भी पहुंचता है जो विदेश में रहते हैं किन्तु अंग्रेजी नहीं बोलते; उन्हें भी अपने अपनाए हुए देश की विविध साहित्यिक परंपराओं को समझने और उनकी सराहना करने का अवसर मिलता है।”

India’s Union Human Resource Development Ministry instituted the Hindi Sevi Samman in 1989. Divya Mathur has been awarded the Padmabhushan Moturi Satyanarayan Award. The purse of the award is Rs 5 lakhs (over £5000) and will be presented by the President of India at the President House for her writings and promoting diaspora women writers. The magnitude of your organizational skills was recognised by Arts Council of England as early as 2003 when they honoured her for the ‘outstanding contribution and innovation in the field of arts.’ In the same year, she was also nominated Fellow of Royal Society of Arts.

The multi-award-winning author, Ms Mathur, MA, FRSA, is the founder of the Vatayan: Poetry on South Bank. Ms Mathur expressed her gratitude at this rare recognition, “I am delighted and humbled at the same time. I did not know about it in advance, but I feel it is the recognition of my contribution to Indian literature from the UK.”

Ms Mathur, who was born and brought up in Delhi, moved to the UK in 1985 and worked at the High Commission of India for 7 year. She worked her way up to being selected by the then Minister Mr Gopalakrishna Gandhi to join the team that established The Nehru Centre in 1992.

She has published a novel, six collections of stories, seven collections of poetry, and has edited over half a dozen collections of stories and poems, besides translations of children’s literature. Over a dozen PhD’s have been written on her books. She is listed in the volumes of Inspirational Women, Wikipedia, Asian Who’s Who and several international collections.

The 71-year-old said: “When people abroad write in their native languages, they promote the culture and literature of that language to the country they hail from, but also enrich the diversity of the host country. It also reaches out to people who do not speak English and live abroad. They get an opportunity to understand and appreciate the diverse literary traditions of their adopted country.”
