इंडियन बुमेन्स प्रेस कॉर्प्स ने मीडिया इंडस्ट्री में कार्यरत महिलाओं के शोषण पर जताई चिंता

नई दिल्ली, 23 जून। देश के प्रमुख महिला मीडिया संगठन ‘इंडियन बुमेन्स प्रेस कॉर्प्स (IWPC) ने मीडिया इंडस्ट्री में कार्यरत महिलाओं के कार्यस्थल पर उत्पीड़न की कड़े शब्दों में निंदा की है। महिला पत्रकार स्वतंत्रतापूर्वक और निडर हो कर काम कर सकें इसके लिए कार्यस्थलों में उत्पीड़न मुक्त वातावरण बनाने की मांग पर भी ज़ोर दिया है।

सोमवार को IWPC ने एक बयान जारी कर, अपने वरिष्ठ सहकर्मियों द्वारा उत्पीड़ित इंडिया टीवी की युवा महिला एंकर तनु शर्मा की ओर इशारा करते हुए उसके आत्महत्या के प्रयास की खबरों पर गंभीर चिंता जताई। बयान में कहा गया है कि महिला पत्रकार द्वारा छोड़े गए नोट के अनुसार वरिष्ठों द्वारा लगातार उत्पीड़ित किया जाने और अचानक नौकरी से निकाल दिए जाने ने उसे आत्मधाती कदम उठाने को बाध्य किया।

बयान के अनुसार, महिला पत्रकार द्वारा ऐसा कदम उठाने का कारण विशेष जो भी रहा हो, सामान्यतः यह देखा गया है कि मीडिया इंडस्ट्री में अन्य कर्मचारियों सहित महिलाओं के प्रत्यक्ष और अप्रत्यक्ष शोषण में वृद्धि हुई है। अक्सर नौकरी की अस्थायी प्रकृति को कर्मचारियों के डराने का हथियार बनाया जाता है।

आईडब्ल्यूपीसी का विचार है कि मीडिया को समाज का लोकपाल और प्रहरी माना जाता है। ऐसे में मीडिया को अपने संस्थानों को निष्पक्ष और उत्पीड़न मुक्त कार्यस्थली बनाने की जरूरत है। प्रिंट, इलेक्ट्रॉनिक तथा ऑनलाइन मीडिया में पत्रकार स्वतंत्रता पूर्वक और बिना डरे काम कर सके इसके लिए नौकरी का सुरक्षित होना भी जरूरी है। वहीं जहां प्रिंट मीडिया के लिए Working Journalists and other Newspaper Employees Act (Conditions of Work) and Miscellaneous Provisions Act जैसे कानून बनाए गए हैं उसी प्रकार इलैक्टॉनिक मीडिया के लिए भी कानून बनाए जाने चाहिए।

New Delhi (Press Note): The Indian Women’s Press Corps notes with deep concern the report of a young woman journalist attempting suicide following alleged harassment by her seniors. As per the note left behind by the journalist, abrupt termination of her contract as well as sustained harassment appear to be the reasons behind her taking such a drastic step. Irrespective of whatever the specific reasons may have been, it has been observed in general that there has been an increase in cases of overt and covert forms of harassment of employees including women, where the temporary nature of work contracts are often used as a means of intimidation.

The IWPC is of the opinion that that the media, considered as an ombudsman and watchdog of society needs to establish and ensure fair and harassment free working environments in their own establishments and put in place secure terms of employment so as to enable journalists in the print, electronic and online media to work freely and fearlessly.

The IWPC notes that while the print media is protected by the statutory norms under the Working Journalists and other Newspaper Employees Act (Conditions of Work) and Miscellaneous Provisions Act, similar norms governing the working conditions of journalists in the electronic media should be statutorily framed and passed by the government.
